EDITOR
Once upon a time, illustrator Marc Nadel and I were discussing book publishing as we wove our way through New York Comic Con when we crossed paths with Connie Santisteban, my former editor on Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight. executive producer, through whom I first met Marc.
While we were working on Black Panther Psychology: Hidden Kingdoms, Stan Lee left this world to embark on his next This is our first Marvel topic without him. We thank the man born Stanley Martin Lieber again for joining our journey, and I miss him. We owe him and Jack for giving us the character were exploring in this particular stretch in the trek.
A PERSONAL NOTE ON STAN
I was lucky enough to work with Stan Lee for a time, and luckier still that he agreed to do two interviews that led to the forewords for Captain American vs. Iron Man: Freedom, Security, Psychology and Daredevil Psychology: The Devil You Know. Every moment that we spent in interviews, between tapings of our YouTube show Cocktails with Stan, or behind the scenes at convention panels, Stan was gloriously cheerful and exceedingly lovely. He never failed to put his fans first and had a kind word for everyone. No one has ever worked harder, yet there was never a moment when he didnt have a smile on his face. I feel blessed to have known him and his work will live on forever.
Jenna Busch, writer and editorial assistant
Many writers, artists, editors, actors, filmmakers, and other creative individuals have guided the Black Panther for more than fifty years. Reginald Hudlin and Ta-Nehisi Coates deserve shout-outs for how often we cite their work. We thank them all, with a special recognition to director Ryan Coogler and actor Chadwick Boseman, who showed the world how great Black Panther can be. We must heap extra appreciation upon those who directly helped us on this book. Back when our foreword author Don McGregor wrote the Panthers Rage storyline in Jungle Action, he was the first writer to present TChalla as the lead character, not as a guest star, supporting character, or member of a crowded American super team. In that story, Don created Killmonger, expanded our knowledge of Wakanda, and laid the foundation for many other creators stories yet to come. Actor Keith David Williams (a.k.a. Keith David), who was the first actor to play TChalla in any form; writer Christopher Priest; Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter; Marine veteran Tara Bachman; and artists Arvell Jones and Ken Lashley were all so gracious for speaking with us and letting us include their interviews in this book.
