Nobody likes having bad breath, but something even worse than having bad breath is having garlic breath. After eating garlic, the smell can stick around even after trying to get rid of it. It is an old joke that vampires wo n t come near garlic, and with the way it smells, i t s hard to do n t blame them!

The purpose of this guide is to provide you with a variety of different methods to help you get rid of your garlic breath. A variety of different strategies will be simply broken down for you choose from. The methods in this guide will provide you with a variety of outcomes including: masking the smell of garlic, eliminating the smell of garlic, or masking and eliminating the smell at the same time. Feel free to try as many or as little methods as you like. My goal is for this guide to provide you with lots of options so you can find a few methods that work really well for you. We will start by going over why garlic causes such bad breath in the first place.

Why Does Garlic Make Your Breath Smell Bad?

Garlic is consumed for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties that are super healthy and fight health risks including diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Garlic is also used as a delicious seasoning and ingredient in a variety of recipes. Despite all the positive benefits of garlic, there is one very undesirable trait about it. We know garlic makes our breath smell bad, but why is the scent of garlic so distinct and hard to get rid of? And what makes garlic make our breath smell so bad in the first place? The answer to these questions are rather simple. The root of garlic produces sulfuric compounds that enter your mouth when you eat the garlic. These compounds cause your breath to have a putrid and distant scent. When you try to brush your teeth, instead of eliminating the smell, the sulfuric compounds will move until they reach your blood stream. The compound will slip out of your pores so when you inhale, the compound will end up back in your mouth. This creates a long cycle of the garlic being passed from your mouth to your bloodstream, and then out your pores back into the air you breath. Because the compound excretes from your pores, this can also cause your entire body to smell like garlic too! It is scientifically proven that garlic can linger in your breath for up to twenty-four hours. This may sound like an everlasting cycle of garlic, but the smell is possible to get rid of or to mask. Although some of these methods do remove the smell of garlic breath, others are just simply masking the odor with a stronger and more pleasant smell. Now that we know why garlic makes your breath smell, it is time to take action. Without further ado, it is time for your garlic breath fighting journey to begin.

Parsley

For over 2,000 years people have used parsley as a decoration. In the middle ages people began to use parsley as a seasoning. Believe it or not, nibbling on parsley is a great way to get rid of garlic breath. The chlorophyll in parsley can not only fight off bad breath, but also fight off bad body odors. This works perfectly to get rid of the garlic smell in your breath as well as the compounds in your bloodstream that are being released from your pores. Parsley is fairly inexpensive and is the perfect method for someone who needs quick and simple relief from their bad breath. When you purchase parsley always make sure it is fresh. If the parsley you purchase is dried, it will have no affect on your breath. This is because dried parsley has no active chlorophyll in it. To get rid of the parsley simply chew on it for a few minutes. You can also include parsley in recipes, teas, and homemade mouthwashes to help fight off your garlic breath.

Cinnamon Mouthwash

It has been proven by science that cinnamon can give you better breath. This is probably why toothpaste, floss, breath mints, and gum often come in cinnamon flavors. The reason why cinnamon fights off bad breath is because it contains an essential oil that is known for eliminating bacteria in your mouth. A study done by the International Association for Dental Research discovered people who chew cinnamon gum had the bacteria in their mouth decrease by 50% versus people who chewed minty gum. This could potentially mean that cinnamon will do more for your garlic breath than mint can. By combining cinnamon with lemon and honey, you are fighting off your bad breath with three strong breath savers. Because you will not be drinking this product only gargling with it, adding baking soda is another great ingredient to help fight off your garlic breath.

You will need:

Cinnamon powder

Honey

Lemons

A juicer

Baking soda

Warm Water

An empty jar or bottle with a lid

Steps:

  1. Wash, then slice two lemons in half.
  2. Using a juicer, squeeze the juice out of your lemons.
  3. Pour the lemon juice into your jar or bottle.
  4. Measure out 1/2 a tablespoon of cinnamon and pour it into the jar or bottle.
  5. Mix the contents of the jar or bottle for approximately 1 minute.
  6. Measure out 1 teaspoon of baking soda and pour it into the mixture in your jar or bottle.
  7. Before stirring the mixture, add 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of honey into the jar or bottle.
  8. Pour 1 cup of very warm water into the jar or bottle.
  9. Stir for 1 minute.
  10. Seal the jar or bottle with a lid.
  11. Before using always shake the jar or bottle for fifteen seconds.
  12. Pour a small amount of the contents of the bottle into your mouth.
  13. Swish the contents around your mouth and gargle for thirty seconds.
  14. Spit the contents into the sink and rinse your mouth with water.

Green Tea

Green tea is a very popular drink that can eliminate your garlic breath. People love using green tea to combat their garlic breath because there is research behind it to show that it really can make a significant difference.

Green tea contains a special antioxidant called polyphenols. This antioxidant works to cover up the chemicals in garlic that are causing your mouth to have a garlic odor. Research shows the closer you drink green tea to when you ate the garlic, the better it works at eliminating the odor. Drinking green tea at the same time as eating a meal or snack containing garlic is actually the best way to prevent the garlic from getting into your blood stream.
