Chapter 1: What Is Machine Learning?
When you think about it, all machine learning really entails is the ability to teach an algorithm or computer program the best way to improve progressively on a given task. When it comes to research, all machine learning is best viewed at the level of mathematical and theoretical models when concerning the process. Nevertheless, it is more practical to think of it as a way to construct many applications that are able to utilize the improvement. There is more than one way that we can make this idea a reality, but mainly they are recognized in three categories. These categories are reinforcement learning, unsupervised learning, and supervised learning.
As we continue to saturate ourselves with machine learning and artificial intelligence, we also continue to become more and more zealous about technology. Because of this, we will need to stay abreast of the understanding required to identify the various machine learning types that we may come in contact with. For the beginner, this may mean they would have to understand the various machine learning types, as well as exhibiting it all in different applications used. As far as the application creators are concerned, they know that it is important that one should know the machine learning types for all the tasks that you may run into. That way you will be able to create a learning environment that is properly-suited for it and you can understand how it worked.
Supervised Machine Learning
The most well-known machine learning is supervised machine learning. It is also the easiest paradigm to be understood and simple to be implemented. It is so simple that it is usually compared to learning flashcards.
When talking about supervised machine learning, it is oftentimes described as being task-oriented. This is because it becomes very focused on one task, as it continuously feeds the algorithm with examples until the desired task is performed. This will be the exact type of learning you will probably come in contact with as you use these applications:

Advertisements that could have good performance are often selected as a task for supervised learning. A lot of the advertisements that are found online while browsing has been put there with the help of an algorithm which believed that it was popular. If you have ever sent or received an email, then you should be familiar with the spam folder. Your spam folder is a system of supervised learning. This system was fed with many email examples so that it would filter email that seems malicious so that no harassment occurs to the user. These can also learn a users preferences as the user adds new email tabs.
