Paintball is fast, its exciting, it will

get your

adrenaline

pumping! It

can also help build leadership skills,

communication

and teamwork.

Paintball can be

played one on one, or

as a team.

The worlds rst paintball game was

played in New Hampshire, in 1981. It took

place on acres of woodland. There were

twelve players.

PAINTBALL PAST

Paintball as a game, or sport, was the idea of three

friends

Bob Gurnsey, Hayes Noel, and Charles

Gaines. They organized and played in the worlds rst

paintball game.

A wooded area is a great

place to play paintball.

Word spread and other people started

playing paintball. Indoor and outdoor

paintball arenas started opening in many

areas as paintball became more popular.

By 1984 paintball was being played all

over the world.

Paintball is so popular that teams

from all over the world compete in the

PSP (Paintball Sports Promotions) World

PAINTBALL EQUIPMENT

Paintball Markers

Paintball markers are paintball guns.

They are used to mark the

opposition

with paintballs.

compressed air bottle

Paintball markers come in different

designs and sizes. They use

compressed

gas or air to shoot the paintballs out of

the barrel. For safety reasons, paintball

markers should not re a paintball faster

than feet (91 meters) per second.

PAINTBALL PAST

In the early 1960s Charles

Nelson, of the Nelson Paint

Company, invented a paint

pellet that could be shot out of a

gun. In 1965, the rst paintball

marker was produced. Before

paintball was a sport, paintball

markers were used by foresters

to mark trees and by ranchers to

mark cattle.

Paintballs

Paintballs are the

ammunition

.

They are round capsules made of

gelatin

. Inside each paintball is

colored paint. The paint is

nontoxic

and can be washed off with water.

Paintballs are loaded

into the

hopper

. A

hopper is attached to

the paintball gun and

can hold up to

paintballs.

POINTERS

You can also buy paintball

grenades. A paintball grenade

can mark multiple players at

one time.

Pods and Pod Packs

Because paintball players can go

through hundreds of paintballs in a

game, they usually carry extra in pods,

or pod packs.

SAFETY GEAR

Paintball players usually wear full face

masks. These protect their eyes, nose,

ears, and mouth.

Some players wear

special clothing with

padding. Gloves,

elbow pads, and

knee pads are also

worn by some.

Most regulated paintball

elds do not allow players to

play without safety gear.

TRY OUT THE GUN

Now you have read about the equipment

and the safety gear, lets try out the gun.

Step One:

Make sure the trigger safety switch is in

the safe position.

Step Two:

Screw the compressed air bottle onto the

gun the gun will not work without this.

Step Three:

Fill the hopper with paintballs and

make sure it is closed.

Step Four:

When you are ready to use your gun,
