Dear Student,
Thank you for picking up a copy of the 5 lb. Book of ACT Practice Problems. We hope this meaty tome provides just the right practicea workout for both your mind and your biceps!as you prepare for the ACT.
A great number of people were involved in the creation of the book you are holding. First and foremost is Zeke Vanderhoek, the founder of Manhattan Prep. Zeke was a lone tutor in New York when he started our company in 2000. Now, well into its second decade, the company contributes to the successes of thousands of students around the globe every year.
Our Manhattan Prep resources are based on the continuing experiences of our instructors and students. As the primary editor of this book, I had tons of help from a fantastic team. Passages and questions were written and edited by me, Mary Adkins, Jesse Cotari, Taylor Dearr, Whitney Garner, Rina Goldfield, Ben Ku, Dan Lerman, Emily Madan, and Tate Shafer. As I headed up the English section, Tate led Math, Mary and Rina split leadership duties on Reading, and Dan oversaw Science. Outside contributors Carlota Dwyer and Haven Reininger provided valuable writing and editing, and Cheryl Duckler shared her copy editing chops. Additional editing was provided by Whitney, Emily, Chelsey Cooley, and Julia Van Dyke.
Meanwhile, Dan McNaney, Derek Frankhouser, Cathy Huang, and Belen Ferrer provided design and layout expertise as Dan and Derek managed book production. Liz Krisher made sure that all the moving pieces came together at just the right time. I am deeply grateful to each of these wonderful people.
Finally, we are all indebted to all of the Manhattan Prep students who have given us feedback over the years. This book wouldnt be half of what it is without your voice.
At Manhattan Prep, we aspire to provide the best instructors and resources possible, and we hope that you will find our commitment manifest in this book. We strive to keep our books free of errors, but if you think weve goofed, please visit . Or give us a shout at 212-721-7400 (or 800-576-4628 in the U.S. or Canada). I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again, and best of luck preparing for the ACT!
Sincerely,
Chris Ryan

SCIENCE VOCABULARY LIST
This list features over 150 terms that have been used in official ACT Science passages. Many of these terms are not defined within the passage, so you must know them in advance. Other terms in our list are defined within the passage, but the more familiar you are with the specialized vocabulary that is typically used in Science passages, the faster you'll go and the better you'll do on this section of the ACT.
