FOREWORD

For more than a quarter century, TheAmityville Horror has haunted America and the world. The storywas first revealed in the late Seventies, when Jay Ansons booktold the horrific story of an American familys 28-day ordeal intheir dream home. It was a story of dark visions and possession, ofstrange ghostly hauntings, of putrid ooze that with no warning orrational explanation seeped from taps and toilets, and of bizarreattacks by hordes of flies commanded by some unseen, malevolentforce. These events shattered the lives of George and Kathy Lutzand their children, drove them to the brink of insanity and finallycaused them to flee in terror, never to return. The tale of theLutzes a typical, loving, God-fearing middle-class family untiltheir encounter with the unknown resonated with readers aroundthe world. It seemed so possible, so true.

The Amityville Horror: A True Story soldmillions of copies in the U.S. alone, and duplicated that successthroughout much of the world. The subsequent film adaptation becamethe most successful independent movie of its time. This was soonfollowed by equal returns in foreign sales.

John G. Jones, an Australianmusician/author/producer, had only a passing acquaintance with theAmityville story until the day that he met George and Kathy Lutz. They saw something in each other a special connection andwithin a few weeks, the unintentionally famous couple had told Johna secret that few others knew at that time: the horror didnt endwhen they left the house. It escaped with them, and continued topursue them as they fled across the country. It even followed themas they sought refuge and help halfway round the world. Worse:they were not the only ones affected.

Friends and family, co-workers and colleagues, were all having terrible trials of their own, triggered by merecontact with the force from Amityville. Somehow the infectioushorror was continuing, they told him years later, even as theywere talking to John. It was happening every day.

The Lutzes were terrified and exhausted, butthey wanted the world to know: the story wasnt over. The Horrorwas continuing and getting worse.

Shortly after their first meeting, at therequest of the Lutzes, John, acquired the rights to the continuingstory of the Horror that began in Amityville. His first book,The Amityville Horror II, was an instant New York TimesBest-seller and soon appeared on best-seller lists worldwide, asdid his subsequent books: Amityville Horror III, Amityville: TheEvil Escapes and Amityville: The Horror Returns.

During those years, the name Amityville becamesynonymous with modern-day, real-world horror and John himselfbecame an almost unwilling authority on the supernatural. Otherswould bring their stories and secrets to him, and inevitably hebecame involved in their lives. In the process he met a group ofremarkable people researchers, healers, shamans, and charlatans who changed his life.

What he has not revealed to the public until nowis that, while researching and writing his books, John himselfbecame part of the story that shortly after his first encounterwith the Lutz family, the Force from Amityville touched him, andremains part of his life today, many years later.

The truth is: John has become a part of thehorror itself.

Like so many others, John began as a skeptic; headmits that he didnt completely believe the Lutzes at that firstmeeting. The story seemed so bizarre, so impossible. But just ashort time later he found himself keeping a journal of theinexplicable events that were occurring around him almost everyday. It was the only thing he could do to stay sane.

John retains the rights to chronicle the storyof the late George Lutz and his familyand there is still much totell. But now, for the first time, he is also opening his journaland telling his own story and the stories he has been a part ofover all these years. Just as he did in his best-selling books, heis expanding the story of the Amityville Horror beyond its originalhaunted house roots, and exploring the evil force from Amityvilleas it has affected and continues to affect the world at large hisworld, and our world with the same sense of real, trueexperience.

Only John knows the whole story.

Only he can tell it to the world.

And that telling begins right here.

PROLOGUE:
THE NIGHTMARE

The thunder crashes were like hammer-blows. Theymade his whole body shudder and tilt, his heart going THWACK THWACKTHWACK in his chest with every impact.

With each violent rumble the old house convulsedin empathy.

The lightning was more than justblinding-bright, it was sharp. It cut at his eyes like arazor. Blade and hammer, blade and hammer, thwack thwack
