Its often hard to trace just exactly where our thoughts and ideas come from. Besides, I would prefer to believe that they are shaped like a hobos stew. We begin life as a broad rimmed pot into which we toss a green grocers array of different perspectives and wisdom, and then, we season that broth with our own unique experiences to produce the final product.

Whether or not thats true for everyone, it is certainly an accurate description of this books origins. So, while I take full responsibility for what appears in the pages ahead of you, I would be remiss not to thank the many friends and colleagues who helped to shape its themes. They include my brothers-in-arms in the F-Troop, my fellow travelers in the online employment services industry and all of the people Ive spoken to and with during my seminars and presentations around the country. To a person, they stretched my thinking and enriched my dreams.

I also owe a debt of gratitude to Christina Levere for all of her editorial contributions to the manuscript and to the good folks at IPG who have taught me so much about the business of books.

This book, however, would never have been written even with that full recipe of insights and ideas if it werent for the support of my family. I am especially grateful to my kids, Meagan, Brooke and Peter, and their spouses and partners, who are the reason I am so hopeful about the future, and to my sister, Pam, who read an early draft of the manuscript and made it immensely better with her suggestions. And, of course, I could not have endured the long, lonely bouts with my word processor were it not for my wife, Juliana. She is the one who encourages me to live with my better muse.
