Foreword

When our country needed someone to write the instruction manual for the elite US Navy SEAL Team Sniper program, they looked to one man Chief Petty Officer Chris Sajnog. He wasnt chosen because he had the most confirmed kills or because he won any national shooting titles. He was chosen for the same reason you should chose this book: because hes the best in the world at teaching others not just how to shoot any firearm with deadly accurate precision under stress, but also how to train them most effectively so they learn faster than ever before. Simply put, when it comes to learning how to shoot, Chris is a firearms training guru with the magic touch. There is no one else on earth who even comes close.

I met Chris during a radio interview when we were each promoting our books. I was on to talk about the bestselling American Sniper that I was lucky enough to co-write with Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in American history. Chris was promoting his new book, How to Shoot Like a Navy SEAL , a book that went on to become a bestseller in the firearms market and, two years later, still maintains a five-star rating.

American Sniper was successful because of the amazing true story of an American hero who risked and sacrificed his life to protect and help his SEAL team brothers, members of our Armed Services and this great nation.

How to Shoot Like a Navy SEAL reached its success because it teaches the skills that allowed heroes like Chris Kyle and others to successfully complete their missions by putting effective rounds on target every time. Although it is only 124 pages, the value of its content, with its easy to understand directions and access to videos from a master instructor, did not go unnoticed.

That book was written from the twenty years of knowledge and techniques Chris developed during his highly successful Naval career. His new book, Navy SEAL Shooting, was written after Chris learned the trouble others have in being able to train the same way he trained the SEALs. After retiring from the Navy in 2009, he started Center Mass Group and began teaching law enforcement and civilians his elite methods. Chris realized that outside of the Teams, people dont have the same amount of time or money to dedicate to firearms training. So what do Navy SEALs do when theyre given a challenge? They figure out a way to be successful despite any obstacles. And thats what Chris did

Chris spent four years studying how the best athletes and musicians in the world got to where they are today how they learned, how they trained. He studied mechanics and physics and applied them to every shooting technique he developed, eventually changing or modifying almost every traditional way people have been taught to shoot. Finally, he studied the amazing scientific advances in how the brain and body actually acquire new skills and developed his unique firearms training program, The New Rules of Marksmanship , based on building perfect neural pathways.

The result is Navy SEAL Shooting and Im honored to be able to introduce Chris and his groundbreaking book to you. But it comes with a warning: if youre looking for flashy techniques that look good when others are watching, this isnt the book for you. Read my Sniper Elite series to fill your need for exciting action stories, but if youre looking for a way to improve your shooting and are willing to put in the time to train youve found the right book.

This book is broken up into four sections: Training, Mindset, Marksmanship and Operations. Chris always sa ys, How you train is more important that what you train and he reinforces that by starting the book with a full section on what other books dont even cover how to actually train! He then discusses how your mind learns and masters new skills and how to use this knowledge to best accomplish your goals. After that, he took the marksmanship lessons from How to Shoot Like a Navy SEAL , rewritten and expanded, and included it as its own section. He finishes with a section called Operations where he covers movement, malfunctions, manipulations and a section called Mastery , where he covers advanced skills such as shooting multiple targets and how to shoot faster without losing accuracy.

Chris and I have become close friends over the past few years, sharing our passion for firearms and defending our nations freedom. Weve spent countless hours talking, traveling and speaking together on our Teaching Freedom speaking tour. I can tell you that reading this book is just like having a conversation with him witty and intelligent. Hes a man of few words, but he ensures that each one hits its mark.

You literally cant find the techniques taught in this book anywhere else because Chris developed them! He taught the US Navy SEALs to become masters of shooting under extreme conditions and now hes offering you the same opportunity.

You never know when youll need to defend yourself, your family or your country.

Are you ready?

Introduction

If you cant explain it simply,
you dont understand it well enough.

Albert Einstein

As a Navy SEAL I learned that there is no such thing as good enough, and as a SEAL sniper I learned that close enough is enough to get someone killed. Everything we did in training and on missions was done with the goal of perfectionanything less and we went back to the drawing board and figured out a way to go from good to great to ensure that we were better than the enemy. When it comes to firearms training, if you want to be a truly great shooter, you too need to seek perfection in every aspect of your training program. Because unlike leisure endeavors, shooting is literally either hit or miss.
