Getting Around Australia
Australia is absolutely enormous the sixth-largest country in the world and while its tempting to strap a surfboard onto the roof of a campervan, crank up the AC/DC as loud as hell and hit the open road, you might find yourself spending a lot of time getting not very far. Formula 1-wannabes can drive from Melbourne to Sydney or Adelaide in a day, but you wont see much. Sydney to Brisbane becomes a similar blur of road signs and trucks, and forget about Adelaide to Darwin or Perth unless youve got weeks up your sleeve. Passenger trains do ply these routes if you have plenty of time (and money), but youll find internal flights are relatively cheap and, most importantly, fast. And you can usually carbon-offset your flights if youre feeling guilty.
Queensland & The Great Barrier Reef

Why Go?
From the surf-loving beaches of the Gold Coast to the wildlife-rich rainforests of the Daintree, Queensland spreads a dazzling array of wonders. The states most famous attraction is the marine-rich kingdom of the 2000km-long Great Barrier Reef. Islands are also a Queensland speciality, and with over 1000 of them, youll find everything from idyllic white-sand beauties ringed by coral reefs to rugged dune- and forest-covered locales ripe for adventure.
Speaking of adventure, the Sunshine State delivers the goods. You can snorkel or dive through underwater landscapes, go white-water rafting on grade-four rapids, kayak enchanting coastlines, or bushwalk (for the day or the week) through rainforests and gorges, up mountains and along lakes and rivers. Wildlife watching is superb, with tropical birds, whales, cassowaries and even crocs on Queenslands greatest-hits list.
When the sun sets, Queensland doesnt retire. Seafood feasts and drinks with new friends await. The hardest part is deciding where to begin
