In Alghero, take breakfast at Caff Latino on the ramparts at Bastioni Magellano, enjoying views over the port.

To Sassari
Head northeast from Alghero on SS127 and follow signs for Sassari. Spend time sightseeing, shopping or soaking up Sardinian town life from the palm-shaded gardens of the Piazza dItalia.

Lunch in atmospheric LAssassino trattoria in Sassari or you may prefer to take the SS200 north passing Sorso, whose surrounding vineyards produce fine Cannonau wine, and try Ristorante Il Cormorano in Castelsardo.

Castelsardo
Explore the steep lanes and enjoy seaviews from the fortress town of Castelsardo. Shop for artigianato or handicrafts (basketwork, coral and ceramics) in the lower town, before climbing up to the castle and its Basketweaving Museum. Watch women basket-weaving on their doorsteps and bargain for their wares.
