Introduction
A bread maker is a useful kitchen appliance to help you easily make and serve warm, fresh, and delicious homemade bread from your lovely kitchen.
In the body of the bread machine, theres an installed heating element TEN and a rotating mechanism, which is a dough mixer. TEN creates the right conditions for the oven, so the bread machine exudes the perfect speed. Theres also a bucket with non-stick coating, in which all the processes of making bread actually occur. At the bottom of the bucket, theres a paddle blade, which is responsible for kneading the dough from fresh ingredients you load to the bread tin and changing it into a smooth, pliable dough. When baking, the heater warms a bucket of dough and air around. A lid with a window retains heat well and allows you to monitor baking accordingly and safely.
Usually and traditionally, extensive time is needed for making bread. In fact, it may take around 3 to 4 hours. However, the time required to prepare the process wont exceed more than 10 minutes! Add the ingredients, press the buttons, leave the bread machine, and in a few hours youll get a delicious loaf!
Every different brand of bread machine may offer according to its menu setting. However, a bread machine commonly offers several cycle settings, depending upon what types of bread you seek to make.
If youre using your bread maker for the very first time, its always a good idea to follow the simple recipes in the manual that accompanies it. By doing this, youll get a feel for the machine and be able to see what the finished loaf looks like before embarking on the more complicated recipes in my book.
Where possible, always use the finest, freshest ingredients to ensure the best possible results time after time. Also, take care to measure and weigh your ingredients accurately before placing them into the bread machine.
Remember always to use your bread machine away from your conventional oven and make sure its located away from a wall, so it has a little free space all around it for the air to circulate. Also, carefully place your machine on a clean and level surface.
While the bread is prepping and baking, don't be tempted to lift the lid as itll hinder the end result.
Be certain not to touch the outside of your machine while the bread is baking as itll be very hot. Be vigilant to keep your young children and pets away at all times.
Always remove the plug before moving and cleaning your machine. Once cleaned, always store your machine in a clean and dry area.
The best piece of advice I can give is to always add the ingredients in the way they are listed for each particular recipe, unless your own bread maker states a different order. For ease of use, Ive listed the ingredients for my own personal machine.
Cleaning Your Bread Machine
Step 1: Sweep It Out
Place the bread machine on the side. Use a paintbrush or a basting brush to sweep the crumbs out. DO NOT use water to rinse the inside. If theres some moist dough inside, dont scrap it as this could damage the bread machine. Allow it to dry and remove it.
If theres any liquid inside, wipe it using a clean cloth, but DO NOT use it to wipe the rest of the bread machine.
Step 2: Clean the Heating Elements
Many people fail to remember to clean the heating elements because theyre very sensitive.
Use a moist cloth to wipe them.
DO NOT sprinkle water as this could damage the machine. Gently pat the cloth deliberately until clean.
DO NOT scrub hard or push down any parts since they arent easily fixed or replaceable.
Step 3: Clean the Bread Pan
Most people clean the pan as its the most commonly cleaned component of the bread machine. Some pans can be cleaned in a dishwasher while others arent safe for a dishwasher.
Use a scrubber if the food sticks on the pan, or if the pan is non-stick. DO NOT scrub with a steel sponge.
Step 4: Let It Dry
Allow the components to air dry and put them back. During your cleaning process, DO NOT use chemicals like bleach inside the baking pan or the bread machine. They could harm the food you cook.
Chapter 1.
Bread Machine: Know Your Bread Machine
The bread machine, also popularly referred to as the bread maker, is a machine or appliance found in the kitchen created with the purpose of baking raw ingredients into consumable bread. Bread is a type of food that is baked using a variety of dough and can be in so many different shapes and sizes, as well as qualities. Bread ingredients are dependent on the needs of the one baking it and can be prepared in a variety of methods, as well. Bread is known to be one of the worlds oldest foods.
A bread machine is made up of a bread pan and paddles that are built-in and are placed in the middle of a multi-purpose oven that is small and manageable, as well. This small oven has a built-in micro-computer, which is what you use to operate the bread maker. There are different settings on the bread maker, depending on the type of bread you intend to bake. These settings include those for white bread, whole bread, French bread, as well as simple dough like those of pizzas. There is also an option of a timer on the bread maker to enable it to go on and off automatically even when you are not in the vicinity to operate it.
The bread maker is basically a smaller oven version that uses electricity, and which can only accommodate one bread pan in it. The bread pan is characterized by an axle which is located at its bottom, connecting it to a motor, run by electricity. The waterproof axle then connects to a small metallic paddle. The paddle is the one that kneads the dough.
The bread maker has a lid that is either opaque or see-through, depending on the make and model. The lid also comes with a vent that is used to remove all the excess steam produced during the baking process and an air vent on its side to allow air to come in, which is vital for the dough to rise well. It has a control panel at the top that will enable you to operate it easily.
Bread machine cycles
Now, let me help you understand the various cycles and settings that you can find on your bread machine.
Basic Cycle
This setting is the most commonly used function of the bread machine, allowing you to create standard bread. This function generally runs for three to four hours, depending on the loaf size and style of bread. You can also use this setting when making bread using whole wheat flour.
Sweet Bread Cycle
This cycle, as the name suggests, is for bread that has higher sugar or fat content than standard bread. The setting is also used when ingredients such as cheese and eggs are used. This function allows the bread to bake at a lower temperature than other functions as the ingredients included may cause the crust to burn or darken in color.
Nut or Raisin Cycle
Though you can add ingredients such as nuts and dried fruit pieces into your pan, some machines tend to churn them too finely. The nut or raisin cycle is there to ensure that these ingredients stay relatively chunky, adding texture and sweetness to the bread. This function is ideal as it alerts the baker when it's time to add in the nuts or fruit pieces.
Whole Wheat Cycle
Whole wheat bread needs to be kneaded and churned longer than your standard loaves. That is why this cycle is perfect for bread that calls for this type of flour to be used. This function allows the bread to rise high enough and stops it from becoming too dense.
