Introduction

If you have picked up this book, then it is safe to say that you are interested in learning about UX programming. And you have come to the right place! This book will teach you everything you need to know about UX programming, from the basics of what it is to the more advanced concepts.

Each chapter in this book is designed to build upon the knowledge you have learned in the previous chapter. By the end of this book, you will have a strong understanding of what UX programming is and how to apply it to your own designs.

This book is divided into two phases and 10 chapters. Phase 1 is all about learning the basics of UX and UI. We will cover topics such as UX and UI, the different types of UX, how to design user personas according to your UI project, and how to create prototypes. Don't worry; we will go into more detail about what these things mean later. In phase 2, we will be actually doing some practical work. I'll introduce HTML and CSS, and we will be creating a simple e-commerce home page together. Then we will move to a UI Prototype tool that will show us how prototyping works. All the resources are available on our Google drive. I have provided the links so you can download them easily. By the end of this book, you will have a strong understanding of what UX programming is and how to apply it to your own designs.

So without further ado, let's get started!

PHASE 1: The Basics
Chapter 1: Introduction: What Are UX and UI?

What we'll discuss in this chapter:

  • What exactly is UX?
  • What is UI?
  • What are the basic components of UX?
  • What are the basic elements of a UI?
  • What do you call a good UX?
  • Features of a good UX?
  • Why is UX so important in today's world

Design is not just what it looks like or feels like. Design is how it works -Steve Jobs

You've probably heard the word User Experience being thrown here and there. Chances are you are a beginner who wants to learn how UX works. But like many other individuals, you too may have associated it with a very tech-savvy language or some computer language when in reality, it is none of these things. Yes, UX or human-computer interaction is taught as part of many computer sciences courses, but anyone can learn it. ANYONE, including you. Before delving deeper into how you can learn it or why you should learn it, and why it is just so important in today's modern world, let us first discuss what it really is UX.

So, What Is UX?

As you may have guessed by now, UX stands for User Experience . See nothing to do with computer science. So why is it called User experience? Well, it means exactly what it sounds; creating a good experience through digital or modern means like mobile phones, tablets, products, services, websites, etc. For the USER, this user experience must be easy, straightforward, responsive, and substantial.

User experience is centered on creating a helpful design that is exactly what the user needs. Even your everyday appliances use UX features such as microwave or oven touchpad interfaces. The same goes for your smart TV. Every human-computer interaction that you come across on any digital or electronic appliance is a user experience for you.

No need to look for the meaning of UX in the outer world. The best way to look for what UX means is through your own experience. You, as the user, may have opened a website or an app. Let's say you want to purchase the new Nike shoes. So if you opened the Nike website, scrolled around the website, saw the specifications of the product that you wanted to buy, and just had a good look at what you wanted is your own UX (user experience). Congratulations, you had your own User experience via the Nike website, and if this experience was what you were looking for, i.e., easy, straightforward, good navigation, good content, you just had an amazing UX. In fact, that joyful feeling you just had in your gut that's called UX! We, as human beings, are constantly touching or being touched by the world of UX.

Having a mere interface or design is not the goal of UX. This is why having a good UX goes hand in hand with your business or product goal. You need to deliver a seamless, responsive, simple, and straightforward design or solution to the user for them to actually enjoy or like it. That's the sole purpose of making or learning UX in the first place. A seamless, excellent experience for the user.

As I said earlier, UX encompasses product, service, or business.

A product isnt made just for its looks or design It has to function according - photo 1

A product isn't made just for its looks or design. It has to function according to its user's or customer's needs. In the universe of product design, UX should be made according to how well the product works.

We're going to tell you the story of a sustainable electronic company called Electrolux. They are not just about giving high-tech appliances. In fact, they have taken the interaction element to a whole new level.

When making their appliances, they pay special attention to user research. Do you know the old adage? To understand what the user needs, you need to walk in their shoes. Well, this is exactly what the design guys do at Electrolux. Taking the example of a dishwasher, good nice research from the company's end revealed that families usually load their dishes during the day and run the dishwater at night. The 2nd thing they noted was that many individuals opt to choose the quick method to clean their dishes. This was a behavior pattern they noted in most of the homes. They actually did not need the clean dishes quickly.

So, the guys at Electrolux created an interface they named Quickselect Eco that takes about 3 hours to finish washing the dishes and takes little energy and water to do the task.

In the end, this User experience resulted in low bills for the families. This is what we call a good UX in product designing and creation.
