    FOREWORD
    Dave Ramsey

I ve been blessed to teach Gods and Grandmas ways of handling money to people across the country for a few decades. Early on in my career, the people I looked up to, the ones who had paved the way in the area of biblical personal finance, were Larry Burkett, Howard Dayton, and Ron Blue. These guys were the masters, the dream team of biblical personal finance. It was an honor to come alongside them and carry the message of financial peace forward to a new generation.

But in all the years since I first started talking about money, Ive felt like somethingmaybe someone was missing. I believe that once in a generation, God sends a fresh, loud voice into the area of personal finance. A big voice to shake things up. A voice to get peoples attention and get their financial plans on track. A voice to lead the way in a world full of confusing financial strategies, bad advice, and investing products that look like they were named with leftover Scrabble letters. I am excited to say that, after years of waiting, Ive found that missing voice. In my opinion, Chris Hogan is the voice of retirement in America today.

Chris gets what so many other financial guys miss: Retirement isnt about math and interest rates; its about your dreams. Sure, the math matters, but if you dont have your dreams at your back pushing you forward, youll never be motivated to do the hard work of saving and investing over the course of several decades. You definitely need a tactical planand this book will give you thatbut if you dont start with a dream of what your life will look like in that someday world, you probably wont make it.

I dont hear a lot of so-called experts talk about dreaming as part of a healthy retirement plan. Maybe thats why when most people hear the word retirement they usually feel a sense of dread and despair. I hear those calls on my radio show every single day. So many of the people I talk to arent working toward a dream; theyre running into a nightmare! But when you follow the plan Chris outlines in this book, you wont just dreamyoull start living your dreams in high definition!

    Ready to Invest?

But before you dive in to the incredible plan Chris lays out in this book, I want to make sure youre actually ready to invest. If youve read any of my books, listened to my radio show, or attended Financial Peace University , which Chris and I teach together, you already know about the Baby Steps. Just in case, though, lets take a minute to run through them. These seven steps show you exactly what to do and the order in which to do it. Retire Inspired is going to get you excited about saving for retirement, and thats great! But doing a good thing at the wrong time can lead to trouble. I want to help you avoid that.
