It seems Ive always known the word astrology. Growing up I was surrounded by my parents friendsbeautiful, exciting young people who were all actors, models, singers, and artists. They were always discussing so-and-sos sign, saying things like, Well, it figures if he has a Pisces rising, so I knew the signs of the zodiac before I knew the alphabet.

From the time I was young Ive understood the power of astrology, and I believe to this day that astrology can be a great tool in providing insight into human nature. It unravels the mysteries of our wonderful and complicated fellow human beings and helps us understand why we do the things we do to ourselves and to each other.

Ive known Bridge for longer than I can remember. She is definitely the real deal. Ive called her at the crack of dawn to talk about boyfriends, children, houses, careers, you name it. I always ask for her advice.

I dont recommend the path that led me to understand and appreciate the power of astrology. Many years ago, I was in a horrible car accident on a two-lane bridge. It was a head-on collision with an oil truck. The paramedics who arrived on the scene thought none of us involved stood a chance, but somehow I lived. I had to learn to walk again after many surgeries and an extended stay in the hospital. During this life-changing experience, I left my body many times. The first time was right after I was transported to the emergency room. I stopped breathing, had no pulseand suddenly no longer felt any pain. In fact, I felt more comfortable, cozy, protected, and better than Id ever felt. I loved the ease, peace, and pleasing, loving place I was entering. There was no pain, worry, or fear. At age nineteen, I got to experience Paradise, and it was so incredibly inviting. Suddenly, though, I thought of my parents and became scared for them. I thought, I cant leave themnot yet. Immediately, I felt pain in my chest, head, and back and heard someone say, Weve got a pressure: thirty overand I couldnt hear the rest. I was back, but I couldnt see because my eyes were swollen shut. I tried to talk, but there were tubes in my mouth, and I still couldnt feel my legs. I wondered about the others in the car. No one talked about them.

The experience changed the direction of my life. Suddenly I recognized that no one is guaranteed anything. It was a miracle that I survived, learned to walk again, and actually became a competitive athlete despite my injuries. And later I had beautiful, healthy children, the heart and soul of my being.

A couple years after my accident, I was introduced to a well-respected astrologer, who drew up my chart. She mentioned the day (and time of day) that my accident occurred. She finished our session saying, You died that day. She described the impact of transiting Pluto conjoining Mars and Saturn in my ninth house and then added, And you were reborn.

From that day forward, I began to obsessively study astrology. I read, took lessons, and learned the fine art of calculating a chart without a computer. I cast charts for friends and family members. I asked them what happened on particular days that stood out as life changing and received answers such as My aunt died, I got engaged, and I found out I was pregnant. I was hooked and there was no turning back.
