Green smoothies are very popular among people seeking a healthier lifestyle. Theyre also a hit among people trying to lose weight.
Touted as todays ideal health snack and even a more nutritious meal replacement, green smoothies have made their way into many homes and even some green cafes. With fresh, organic produce becoming more readily available, more and more people as well are embracing the green smoothie trend, whipping up great green smoothie recipes at home. Green smoothie drinkers are reaping the health benefits of consuming fresh satisfying concoctions that are free from any preservatives and chemical additives typical of drinks sold in the supermarkets. A smoothie is traditionally a blended drink consisting of fruit, milk and oftentimes yogurt. (Some smoothie recipes use fruit juices instead to replace dairy products.) Over the years the traditional smoothie blend has become more specific depending on a persons needs and tastes and is now made with many great variations. One of these is green smoothies or smoothies that typically include green leafy vegetables packed with fibers, chlorophyll, and endless nutrition.
A good point to make here is that smoothies arent made from juicing fruits and vegetables. The nutritional value of green smoothies differs greatly to that of merely juicing fresh produce. One important distinction is that juicing is often done to enjoy the flavorful extracts of certain fruits and vegetables but when it comes to making green smoothies, the ingredients are not always chosen for their taste but rather for their nutritional content. The essential vitamins, nutrients, minerals, and dietary fibers you can get from the greens and vegetables in green smoothies far outweigh any taste or flavor they can add to a drink. Green smoothies arent made using juicers or juice extractors but are typically made using blenders. For this e-book though, we are focusing on smoothies made using Nutribullet, the latest innovation in high-speed nutrient extractor.
Unlike juicers, Nutribullet retains the fibers and unlike blenders, Nutribullet produces real-smooth smoothies without the big chunks that are absolutely difficult to drink as well as difficult to digest by our bodies. Find out how Nutribullet works and how to use it to create wonderful nutritious green smoothies you can enjoy daily. In this e-book we have included 70 great recipes for green smoothies you can drink any time of the day whether for breakfast, snack, lunch, dinner, or after work-out. Read on and enjoy!
Before anything else, here are some interesting trivia or short history of green smoothies The person who coined the term
smoothie is not really known but the oldest patented product associated with the word smoothie belongs to Stephen Kuhnau. He was the one who established the 1970s franchise Smoothie King. Looking back at history though, the concept of smoothies can be traced back even further.
For instance, the traditional drink of India called lasse bears a huge resemblance to what we call smoothie. Lasse is a blend of fruit, yoghurt, honey and spices, and had been around even before the birth of Jesus Christ. In Brazil, drinks made of pured fruit blended with yogurt had been around since antiquity, and oddly enough, thick and creamy drinks with avocados and other fruits are also very traditional in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia. By the time the 1920s and 1930s arrived, entrepreneurs started promoting these foreign drinks in health stores all across America. Of course, as technology developed with the birth of household appliances for making life easier, so did the smoothie. The 1933 Miracle Mixer blender in particular established smoothies as a household name.
Other improved models were also released well into the 40s and all featured accompanying cookbooks with smoothie recipes. Smooth, thick, and creamy smoothies became just as popular as the machines capable of making them. By the 60s, typical smoothie blends consist of fruits and fruit extracts (and/or milk), and by the 70s frozen yoghurt became a popular trend used in smoothies. By the 80s, supplements (vitamin and protein powders) started to become incorporated into the smoothies, and by the 90s the smoothie phenomenon reached its renaissance. It gave birth to a multi-billion dollar smoothie industry across the globe. As with the green smoothies, Victoria Boutenko introduced the green smoothie at a time when smoothies are becoming more popular than ever.
Victoria was getting really tired of constant, nagging health issues, so she decided to try going the path of all-natural, raw foods diet. She subjected herself, and her family, to a ten-year long diet that strictly had them eating meals rich in green, leafy vegetables daily. Victoria Boutenko was simply exploring the health benefits of increasing greens in ones diet and based on her research and experiences, she discovered that green smoothies are the greatest choice for better health. Based on Ms. Boutenkos findings, its recommended that the average person consumes at least 4 servings of green leafy vegetables and up to 4 pounds of fresh fruits daily. But munching down these huge servings of fruits and salad leaves are really difficult, plus further research has also revealed that the full nutritional content of greens can only be gained when the cell walls of the leaves have been broken down through chewing/ cutting.
Hence, the development of green smoothies. The smaller the green leaves were shredded, the better they were absorbed by our digestive systems. This can only be attained using a high-grade blender such as the Nutribullet Nutrient Extractor System.
Roughly, here are TEN great benefits of drinking green smoothies daily: 1) Aids tremendously in losing weight (a better, healthier snack alternative) 2) Great for gym-goers (as substitute for pre-/ post- workout meals for boosts of energy. It is easily customizable to be high-protein or low-calorie depending on your type of diet) 3) Helps to keep you hydrated (consists of water and mainly natural fruit and vegetable fluids good for your health) 4) Helps anyone with digestion issues (easier to consume than solid raw food) 5) Perfect way to help your children get their daily dose of vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables without forcing the children to eat them) 6) A healthy way to boost energy in the mornings and throughout the day without compromising your blood sugar levels (its packed with vitamins and nutrients, not sugars) 7) Strengthens the immune system against germs and diseases (it lessens your chances of catching colds or flu) 8) An inexpensive way to a better health (especially if you are buying fruits and vegetables in bulk) 9) Simple and easy to make (requires only a few steps, tools and ingredients) 10) Saves time, plus NO cooking required (this is especially great for raw eaters who are busy and always on the go.)
