One of the aspects of alternative medicinethat has been growing rapidly of late is aromatherapy. The theorybehind aromatherapy is simple: using oils extracted from plantsoften referred to as essential oils, one is able to affect onesmood and level of relaxation, reducing and relieving the stressthat is inherent in modern life.

Taking this one step further, the idea of thebath bomb is combining a luxurious bath with the soothing benefitsof aromatherapy. Bath bombs usually have a variety of ingredientsmaking them up. Bath bombs are mostly made from these naturalessential oils, but they could be other chemicals involved. Whenthe bath bomb is placed in the bathtub, the oils are released intothe water, the steam off the water adding to the aromatherapyeffect. Inhaling these wonderful oils helps you relax, your stressmelting away. Essential oils have also proven to be effective forcombating anger and depression, elevating positive emotions whilesoothing away our more negative ones.

Generally aromatherapy is applied in threedifferent ways. Inhaling the scent of the essential oils directlyis referred to as the inhalation method, in which an individualjust breathes in the oils scented vapors. Dispersion is anotherway that these oils are applied. In this case, the oil is dispersedinto the air. This is not unlike spraying the oil through a perfumesprayer. The last one is applying the oils topically on ones skin.This often happens through a relaxing body massage.

The beauty of bath bombs is that you donthave to choose one of these applications. Bath bombs essentiallyuse all three in conjunction with each other. This is just one ofthe great benefits of bath bombs. Sitting in the bath offers atopical application of the essential oils, while the steam risingoff the water acts as a method of dispersion, the scent risingthrough the growing moisture in the air. This therapeutic scentlingers throughout your entire bathroom, allowing for directinhalation.

This is one of the major reasons that bathbombs are so highly recommended by aromatherapy aficionados. Youget the added benefit of all three applications at once. While youcould always experiment by trying each of the aromatherapy methodsone by one, people often find it much easierand a much quickertherapeutic processto use bath bombs. This is another reason whybath bombs are a terrific choice for beginners to aromatherapy.

As mentioned above, a bath bomb is a mixtureof various ingredients that is designed to dissolve into the bathwater. The ingredients can be separated into two categories: one isfor the essential oils which provide the therapeutic benefit of thebath bomb, and the other is an activator chemical that causes thebath bomb to dissolve in water. Common activator ingredients inbath bombs are citric acid or sodium bicarbonate.

There is nothing to be worried about in termsof these activators as both of these are non-harmful to your skinand should not cause you any type of problem or discomfort. Theessential oils in a bath bomb vary. Store bought bath bombs oftenwill list the essential oils and their benefits.

However, if you are looking for a morehands-on approach to bath bombs, it is very easy to make your ownhomemade bath bombs. The benefit of this is that you are able touse whatever essential oils that you prefer in your mixture. Ihighly recommend at least attempting to make your own bath bombonce; it doesnt have to be immediately, but you will understandmore about the entire process if you do.
