Chapter 1

Just one lastcon darling and thats it, the suave and elegantlydressed man reclining on the love seat told her charmingly.

You told methat the last time Hanson. Amani got up from her seat at theedge of the desk and wandered over to look at the painting on thewall facing her. She studied it carefully, noticing the fine etchingsand the almost amateur lines. Over the years she had become an expertat identifying fine art and that was because of the man lounging inthe chair next to her. Hanson Blair was her mentor, and a surrogatefather, who had saved her from life on the streets. He took her underhis wings and gave her somewhere to stay when she was fifteen and hadran away from the group home where she had been staying. He haddiscovered her trying to pick the lock on his car, and instead ofturning her over to the authorities he had decided to rescue herinstead. She owed him everything. With that knowledge she had foundit very easy to transition from heisting wallets and breaking intocars, to becoming an avid student who had graduated from all that tobecome one of the best con women ever known. She was an expert insliding out a wallet from the tightest fitting clothing to slippingoff a watch from the wrist, but she no longer did anything like that. She was now into art and expensive jewelry. But she had decided inMay, just a month ago when she had celebrated her twenty-eightbirthday, that she was done with all of that. She had not beencaught, and she had a feeling that if she continued she would bedaring fate. She wanted to settle down and get married, live a normallife. The excitement of the con had disappeared for her and she hadmore than enough money to live her own life. She was very grateful toHanson, but she figured she had paid him enough with the jobs she hadpulled off. He operated an art gallery as a front for his morenefarious schemes and the gallery was doing very well.

I absolutelymean it to. Hansons attractive fine boned face wasappreciative as he stared at the women he considered to be a like adaughter to him. He was certifiable gay and had never married or feltthe need to sire a child. But he was proud of the beautiful womanstanding next to him staring at the painting critically. He couldhardly identify her with the scruffy and rude teenager he had caughttrying to break into his car when she was fifteen. She had beenpretty then, underneath all that dirt and the scruffy look, but overthe years Amani Lincoln had grown and blossomed into an incrediblybeautiful woman with a coffee and cream complexion and alluringcurves that drew attention to her wherever she went. Her thick darknaturally curly hair had been cut short and suited her narrow faceperfectly. She had large dark brown eyes with long eyelashes thatseemed to dominate her face and a generous mouth that drew attentionimmediately. She was sophisticated and charming when she wanted to beand when the job required her to be, a chameleon who was able toadapt to any circumstance. She did not usually allow personalrelationships and had only been involved in two over the years. Whenshe was on the job she was focused. She never allowed anything oranyone to break that focus.

I know youhave this ridiculous urge to settle down and become a wife. There was a slight distaste in his tone and Amani hid a smile as shestared at him. His dark hair was sprinkled with gray and his lightblue eyes had that weary cynicism of someone who had seen what theworld had to offer and was not in the least bit impressed. But Amaniloved him! He was the closest thing to a parent and he had alwayslooked out for her. I have this very important client whoinsists that he has to have that particular Renoir that is hanging inLiam Moses apartment. The commission is staggering darling. Itwill set you up for life.

I already havea lot of money thanks to the jobs I did in the past, shepointed out as she walked over to sit next to him. It was lateafternoon and they were sitting inside his office, while downstairsthe gallery was alive with a showing of a new and upcoming artist. Hehad capable assistants to handle the work and so he had taken time tohave this talk with Amani.

Just thisonce, he insisted. Liam Moses is one of the richestcollectors of fine arts and jewelries. His familys money isdated all the way back to the early eighteenth century. He is heir tothe vast Moses fortune and parties like there is no tomorrow. Hislove for beautiful women is widely known and well documented.

So you want meto seduce him and get him to take me to his apartment?

Thatsjust it darling. Hanson waved a slender hand desultorily. Hedoes not take women up to his apartment. Its a veritablefortress, and for good reason. It is rumored that the place is like adamn palace with the most expensive art and sumptuous furnishing. Hehas this little love nest that he takes his women to. Even though heis a slut, he is a very cautious one.

So how am Igoing to get him to take me to his apartment? Amani demanded, already feeling the distaste of doing this particular job. She had noproblem taking from the rich because she knew that whatever she tookwould not be missed very much, everything was insured. But she didnot relish trying to seduce a man she had no interest in. She hadseen Liam Moses photos countless times on magazine covers andon the internet. She had also seen him once or twice at severalfunctions she had attended and had hated the way women seemed to fawnall over him. It made her sick!

You are goingto play hard to get, Hanson told her with a smile. Menlike Liam Moses are not used to women ignoring them and you are goingto pique his interest by doing exactly that.
Amani sighed, knowing that she was not going to say no. When will I put thisinto action?

This veryweekend. I have finagled an invite to his baby sistersbirthday party, being held at the Belgrave hotel on Saturday.
