The Result of theDispute
Future Hollywood star wasborn on March 26, 1985 in Teddington, London, England.
The full name of a Britbeauty is Keira Christina Knightley.
Permanent place of residenceof the actress with confidence can be considered Richmond, thedistrict of London. There she spent most of her life.
Her parents, Will Knightleyand Sharman MacDonald, for many years have been associated with themagical world behind the scenes. Sharman has been writing theplays, some of them were regularly put on the stage of varioustheaters. And Will was an actor.
Keira's parents made a bet.The essence of the bet was this: if Sharman, at that time she hadleft a career of an artist and chosen another area, she became aplaywright, would sell her first play, the Knightley family willhave another child. By that time the couple already had a child, their son Caleb was born in 1979. Mrs. Knightley won the bet. In aresult the British literature in the name of Sherman McDonald'spurchased one more playwright (the play When I Was a Girl, I Usedto Scream and Shout soon was bought by one of the London theatres)and the world cinema got a new star, Keira Knightley.
Even in childhood, futureHollywood actress surprised her parents by request to find her anagent: it was very strange for a little girl that in their housethe phone torn from calls to mom or dad and she was not offeredsomething! However, firstly Keira had to prove them that she wouldbe able to study well if she was allowed to play: "The study is atthe first place," said the parents when the dyslexia was discoveredat the girl (impaired reading and writing). Keira had an incentive:if she studies harder (even during school holidays) she will havean agent! At long last, this fight taught her to beself-disciplined and patience since her early age, what certainlywas important for the future star; as a result, when Knightley wassix, she got her agent.
The Beginning of the Careerand Education
Seven year old Keira madeher debut in the telefilm "Royal Celebration", she had the role ofa little girl. Then she got her first tiny roles in films "AVillage Affair" (1994) and "Innocent Lies" (1995), "TreasureSeekers" (1996) and one more prominent role of the young JudithDunbar in the television drama "ComingHome",where a cinema legendPeter O'toole played the leading role.
Initially her main object ofan aim was a diligent and dedicated study in school, but little bylittle success in the acting area began to become real. Keira'shard work over the development of her artistic skills soon began tobear fruit. By 11 years, her resume began to grow with theparticipation in the European TV shows and local shows, but itshould be admitted that on her way of becoming a popular actressMiss Luck played an important part. However, the name of KeiraKnightley appeared first on everyone's lips not because of heracting achievements.
In 1999 George Lucas wasshocked by the unbelievable similarity between Knightley andNatalie Portman. He proposed her the role of Sabe, maids-double ofQueen Amidala in the Hollywood super blockbuster "Star Wars:Episode I -The Phantom Menace". The participation of Portmanstween in the movie was kept in a secret, and everyone thought thatboth roles were performed by Portman herself. The fact that a Britgirl sometimes substituted her star colleague, it became clear notat once, their own mothers could not even distinguish twoactresses"the twins" when they were with makeup and incostumes!
Strike of luck helpedKnightley to get more prominent roles: in 1999 she got the role ofRose Fleming in the British mini-series based upon Charles Dickensbook "Oliver Twist", and the Disney movie "Princess of Thieves" of2001was her first step in getting leading roles.
The same year a teenageKeira first appeared nude in the film "The Hole" (the film was notreleased until the actress was 16).
In 2002 she spent threemonths in Central Europe, the Slovak Republic, working in DoctorZhivago", in which Keira got the role of Lara. All this hadhappened to a girl when she was underage.
However the same summer, when Keira was taking final exams at school, she was proposed toplay in the movie about an Indian teenager, who was not so easy tonegotiate cultural and religious prejudices of her caring familyfor the love to football. The film "Bend It Like Beckham" became areal breakthrough of Knightley on the screen. Filmed in just 3.5million it has gathered about $ 76 million in worldwide box office, and brought Knightley a long-awaited fame andpopularity.
For successful creation theon-screen image of Juliette Paxton, dazing the audience with herfootball play, Keira and Parminder Nagra, an actress who played anIndian friend Jess, studied Brazilian method of playing. Not toforget tricky movement, girls had to repeat it even at home, dayand night, and so within three months after daily training with acoach. Once, when Knightley got a concussion during such exercises, the director offered the girls to make use doublers for each, however, both immediately refused a proposal, citing the fact thatsoccer tricks was the highlight of the film!
Meanwhile, Keira enteredEsher College to study classics, English literature and politicalhistory, and continue to work in films, taking roles that couldbroaden her acting range. Thus, in January-March 2002, she was busyin Gillies MacKinnons art-house drama "Pureabout drug addiction. She had to play a drug addict girl who was expecting for achild.
An unusual know-how for theBritish teenage actress was her participation in two short films, working in which she received no wages: "The Seasons Alter" in2002, a present-day interpretation of Shakespeare'splay" AMidsummer Night's Dream" (the film was shot by asking of theenvironmental organization Futerra, young actress mother is thepatron of it), and "New Year's Eve" the same year directed by ColinSpector.
Soon Keira was forced tointerrupt her education because she was lack in time for filming inSlovakia in the classic novel by Pasternak"DoctorZhivago".
