AUTHORS NOTE
THE TAOIST PRINCIPLE OF THE Five Elements uses the metaphors of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water to explain the relationship, interaction, and ongoing change of everything in the Universe. The meaning of these Five Elements differs greatly from the Western definitions of the same words in that they each encompass the mind, body, and spirit aspects with which they are associated. To acknowledge this difference, these and other words associated with Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine are capitalized throughout the text of this book.
