The importance of mastering your mindset
There is no other factor that is more important to success - whether personal or professional - than your mindset. What you think is what you become. We can hear all the time that the most important factor to become successful in life is to take massive action towards your goals. Taking action is for sure very important, you cannot win the lottery without buying a lottery ticket, right? But taking action without having the right mindset will not lead to success in the end. It will only be a mix of struggle and frustration toward a goal that you cant achieve.
Becoming clear on this fact is the first step. Deciding that you want to change your mindset is the second step. Starting to change your mindset is the third step.
After the third step, you will immediately and automatically change your behavior.
Changing your mindset and the way you think about the world around you will open you up to new possibilities happening all around you. Limiting beliefs prevent you from creating what you want most in your life. They tell you something is impossible and so it is.
The mind is an extremely powerful instrument. Napoleon Hill, the author of the classic personal development book, Think and Grow Rich said:
Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Believing something is a choice. A belief is just a thought you keep thinking over and over again. Its so important to have a believing mindset. Believe its possible to achieve something in your life and things will often turn out exactly as you believe they will.
If you believe that the sky is the limit, and everything is possible for you, then you are going to take action in that manner until you eventually get what you want.
The three pillars of mindset are abundance, self-confidence, and choice.
Abundance is the idea that theres more than enough for all of your needs and desires. It means having everything around you, that you can be anything, have anything, desire anything because its possible for you because it can be yours. Abundance is a feeling, not a number in your bank account. How do you feel about the possibilities in your life?
Self-confidence as a pillar of mindset, which means that you need to trust in yourself, in your abilities, in your instinct, and in your intuition. We often talk about a gut feeling, which is what you should focus on a lot more in your life.
The third key pillar of mindset is choice, which is the idea that you can make a better choice at any time. If something is not serving you anymore, you can choose to eliminate, change, reframe and move forward with a life that is more joyful, enriching and adventurous. Choice is all about the fact that you can choose something different. You are not limited. Not having to do what others expect. You can always choose when to accept and when to reject what it is thats presented to you. Understand that you can always say, No thank you. Id like something better.
If you can make this mental shift, it can transform your entire life. The path that your life takes depends on the mindset that you adopt.
Difference between an abundance mindset and a scarcity mindset
The abundance mindset is a paradigm that comes from the belief that there is more than enough for everyone. On the other side, a scarcity mindset is the belief that there will never be enough which results in feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety. Are you consumed by scarcity and is it holding you back?
It is important to understand that scarcity and abundance all start in your mind, regardless of what is going on in the outside world and regardless of your external circumstances. Even if you are totally broke and got no money in the bank, you can still decide to live in abundance. Abundance is not about the money in your bank account. Abundance is a deep feeling coming from inside. You can make that mindset shift if you decide to.
The scarcity mindset is about believing that there is only a limited amount of resources, like for example that there is only this one person with whom you can be happy with or there is only a fixed amount of money, which means that if you got more of it you literally take it away from someone else. Where in fact the abundance mindset is all about limitless resources. If it doesnt work out with this one person then there are so many other choices, other people you can meet with whom you can be in a much happier relationship than with the one before.
Regarding money you need to understand, money is not a limited supply. Millions can be printed every day. There is more than enough from everything for everyone. You dont need to be able to see abundance with your physical eyes in front of you. You just need to know and truly believe it's there.
A lot of people out there who are making money are so afraid and have so much scarcity to invest that money. They are afraid to invest it in themselves, in learning, in coaching, in seminars. They are afraid to invest in an opportunity that might exist and that can change their life or that could provide a new stream of income for themselves. They are so afraid to give that money because they are so attached to it. Thats a very unhealthy place to live. If you are so attached to something, then you are closed to other opportunities entering your life which means you are not open to receiving more. You need to learn to let go and be ok with that. Know that if you let go, more abundance will flow into your life.
The scarcity mindset is someone looking at the glass as being half empty versus half full. Someone that worries about competition and saturation.
They are afraid of losing their time or money. They are afraid of failing.
The abundant person understands that failure is part of the process. They are not afraid of losing time and money because they understand what is the most valuable, which is learning and growth.
People with scarcity mindsets are attached to the outcome and attached to things being in a certain way, instead of just trusting the process and trusting whatever happens as part of the ultimate plan. Their mindset is that they will never be enough. They compete to stay on top. They think about people who help others for free: "why would someone give away all their secrets?", because they hold on to that information and knowledge that they have and dont want anyone else to know what they are doing. They are very secretive about that. They are trying to keep that to themselves because they are afraid someone else might copy or steal their idea. They dont want to share.
Oftentimes people in scarcity dont want to help other people either because they view them as competition. It can also trigger jealousy or insecurity within themselves seeing other people do well, seeing how other people succeed and prosper. Oftentimes they are suspicious of others and skeptical. They are afraid of being replaced. They believe that times are tough or the pie of opportunities is shrinking. They think small. They avoid risk and they avoid taking any chances. They fear change. Very often they criticize and judge others. They blame other people for their failures and dont want others to succeed. They often take all the credit for their victories. They dont give credit to someone else. Its all about them.
What happens is that someone who lives in scarcity, ultimately lives in frustration. Other emotions they experience are anger, stress, resentment, anxiety and that holds them back and limits them in a huge way. People in this mindset are focusing on the limitations and why something is not working for them.
