Chapter One
Chapter One: Examining the Evidence
If you dont have an open mind, youre not a scientist.
Robert Rines
I n 1948, the US Air Force launched its investigation into the UFO phenomenon. It was known as Project Sign. It was later changed to Project Grudge, and in 1953 it was changed to Project Blue Book. The Condon Project was initiated by Blue Book to continue its investigations into the UFO phenomenon. It was a thorough investigation that included data that would seem to have no relevance to the subject of unidentified flying objects.
Over two years ago the United States Air Force commissioned the University of Colorado to make a study of the UFO phenomenon. This is the full and final report of the work carried about by the University, at a cost of about $500,000 under the direction of the eminent Dr. Edward U. Condon. (Condon Committee)
I bought my first copy of The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects back in 1996. Being the curator that I am, I was overjoyed to get a good hardcover copy of the masterpiece by Doctor Edward Condon. I threw it on the coffee table, and there it sat for about three weeks. I noticed that Id look at it, but I wouldnt crack the cover. Perhaps I was afraid of what I might find when I did. It soon joined the rows of books sitting in my library collection. And there it sat for quite a long time. I used to cringe when I would listen to other authors talking about how the Condon Project was another government cover-up to hide the truth about UFOs to the general public.
Reflecting back on the significance of this book, I hadnt realized the importance of his scientific study of the UFO phenomena. I ventured to Boston in 1998 to do research. There I formulated the layout for this manuscript. My objective was to publish a book, using a scientific approach to the UFO phenomenon. This preliminary study would determine the viability of a full-scale research project.
That was when I realized the importance of the Condon Committees findings. Unfortunately, I hadnt brought my copy from Seattle. And Seattle is a long way to go for a single book. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a copy from the Copley Square Library in Boston. So having learned my lesson, I began researching Dr. Condons work. It wasnt long before I took the challenge. I decided that a scientific objective was what I needed. After a few red herrings, I was able to find a lot of data that had been overlooked by other students of parapsychology. I admit that I was hooked. I discovered that I would devote an entire chapter to the methodology of Condon Report. If I was to document everything I had learned from my comparative analysis, I couldve easily devoted an entire manuscript to their work.
What some have said was skepticism amounted to a simple and uneducated approach to a subject that would later become one of the most written-about topics in the world. When we reexamine the evidence, youll see that theres a lot to the study about UFOs. Out of all of the case studies that I reviewed in their case report files, there were only a scant few that remained unexplained. There were some questionable cases that remained in the solved category, as there were a couple of aspects that the Condon Committee considered to be of a questionable nature. These were chosen to be re-examined, because in light of recent discoveries, I felt that they werent given enough consideration. What my study of the Condon Report will reveal is that the military is very serious about UFOs, and this alone makes the Condon Report worthy of our consideration. This is proof that UFOs exist as a viable phenomenon.
I had fun with their overly pessimistic approach to some of the more factual cases. As you will see, when we re-examine the Condon Report, we will see the data. Theres evidence that a highly advanced, intelligent race of beings are routinely entering our skies and flying in our airspace unchallenged by our best and deadliest arsenal of weapons. The Condon Committee offers some fresh data in the 90s and a slice of Americana from the mid-1960s.
The study of UFOs was still infantile by comparison to todays standards. And the military was hiding some very scary secrets involving the recovery of alleged alien vehicles. These contained a propulsion unit, which looked more like a nuclear bomb than it did a power plant. These units rivaled the nuclear reactors of that era. The military was in total puzzlement over what all this meant. But there was no doubt in their minds that these UFOs posed a threat to the worlds security, and they were going to set out to find exactly where they stood on this matter. Extensive eyes only operations were conducted in a covert manner. People died, and their secret died with them. It was the American way. Our nation was under attack by aliens from another world.
The Psychological Effect: Neural Encoding
My sole purpose here is to show that there are people who report an observation of a UFO but, for whatever reason, hadnt seen one. Lets explore some of the reasons why it is so easy to misidentify an identified flying object, or IFO.
A sensation depends on the messages arriving at higher sensory centers in the brain in combination with other events simultaneously occurring in these centers. (Michael Wertheimer, Condon Report)
Wertheimer offers up some interesting tidbits of data regarding how the mind receives information. Many authors researching UFOs focus in on the debunking tactics of government-sponsored programs, especially those that are military in nature. Perhaps they are hoping to lend credibility to the subject of UFOs. But by avoiding this data, they are giving the debunkers canon fodder. There is another problem at issue here. They may have overlooked some very pertinent data. This information could potentially give us a broader understanding of ourselves and the universe in which we live.
Knowing the complexity of the UFO phenomenon, I would have to say that its roots lie in fairy tales and legends, religious dogma, and other forms of worship, as well as a plethora of evidence to support the hypothesis that there is another dimension parallel and adjoining ours. There is a way to get in, and theres a way to get out because the evidence suggests that. Someone or something has been doing it since the beginning of recorded time and before that also, as we shall see later on.
The brain is a mysterious organ. Its a place where the minds state of consciousness resides. The mind is a place where dreams and reality exist side by side. The brain is a place still largely unexplored and remains the most mysterious organ in the human body. For the purpose of our present discussion, however, we need emphasize only the distal events that give rise to UFO reports that always involves the transmission of some form of energy. As we have pointed out earlier, that energy is usually in the visible spectrum (Wertheimer, ibid., page 560).
The Transmission Process
It is my hope that you find this information useful. It may provide a clearer understanding of the UFO phenomenon as a whole and aid in the handling of UFO sightings that remain unidentified. Author Marc Davenport is a trusted consultant for various UFO publications and others in the field of UFOlogy. He has entertained a popular theory about the nature of the UFO. The objects, which have been labeled flying saucers for lack of a better word, are actually very sophisticated time machines. They surround their vehicles with a field of energy, or energies, and they manipulate these energies to achieve their destinations wherever that may be . By allowing their spacecraft to utilize the angular velocity of the earth, they can achieve velocities at light speeds. Once you achieve light speed, you become pure energy or some form of radiation that exists above and beyond the light/speed barrier.
