Every day of my life I have the privilege of devoting my time and energy to the only two things in the whole world that are eternal: the Word of God and people. I am so blessed to be surrounded by a team that is deeply committed to these two priorities.

At the center of that team is my wife Donna, whose office is right next to mine and whose heart has been next to mine for fifty-six years. Together we have dreamed and planned and worked toward the goal of influencing our world for Christ. More than ever before we have been seeing our dreams come true.

My oldest son, David Michael is our managing partner at Turning Point Ministries. His role continues to expand each year, and it is because he has taken so much off of my administrative plate that I am able to produce books like the one you have just read. There are no words to describe the joy that is mine as I have the privilege to work with my son every day. At first, I was teaching him but now, it seems to me, I am learning from him... especially about his generation, which is so different from mine.

Diane Sutherland is my administrative assistant at our international headquarters, and she coordinates my schedule, my travel, my partnerships... basically my life! Diane is much loved and respected by all of us at Turning Point and by people all over the world who interact with her on our behalf. To so many people, Diane is Turning Point.

Beau Sager is the coordinator of research and editing. He provides considerable research himself and also works with our team to assure that our information is timely and accurate. Beau is a stickler for details and one of the most godly, diligent, hardworking, servant-hearted men I have ever known.

At the beginning stages of the project, Tom Williams helped us get momentum. Thank you, Tom, for your willingness to lend your creative hand to this book.

Rob Morgan has worked with me at Turning Point for many years, and I am constantly amazed at his ability to get inside my head and my heart so that whatever he brings to our projects is exactly what we need. If this book arrives at the goal we set for it, Rob Morgan will be one of the main reasons.

Jennifer Hansen is the newest member of our publication team. She has a long and distinguished background as a writer and editor and her contributions to the final draft of this manuscript made this book so much better. Thank you, Jennifer, for making time to help us.

The people I have just mentioned were totally involved in the publication of Everything You Need, but there is so much more to a book than its mere release. The promotion, marketing, and circulation efforts of both the author and his team, and the publishers team, determines the fate of the book.

Our creative department led by Paul Joiner is second to none in the development and deployment of the finest and most up-to-date marketing and promotional strategies being utilized today. Everyone who has seen Pauls work agrees with my assessment. Paul Joiner is one of Gods best gifts to Turning Point.

And this year we have once again had the privilege of teaming up with Mark Schoenwald, Daisy Hutton, Sam ONeal, and the W Publishing team. More and more, with each book, we are finding creative ways to work together so that our message can reach as many readers as possible.

As with all my other writing projects, I am represented by Sealy Yates of Yates and Yates. We consider Sealy, his whole family, and his business associates members of our Turning Point team. We have watched as God has honored this relationship now for over twenty-five years.

None of us deserves to have our names on the same page with the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is really all about Him! This is His message! We are His messengers! Whatever glory comes from this endeavor belongs to Him and Him alone. He alone is worthy!

The Pacific Crest Trail is one of the most beautiful but demanding hikes in the world2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. It runs through California, Oregon, and Washington, winding through desert wastelands, along breathtaking ridges, and beside glaciated expanses.

In 2018, Katharina Groene traveled from Germany to experience the PCT for herself. She made it northbound over two thousand miles, all the way to Washington State. For a couple of hours on October 22, she fell in with Nancy Abell of Seattle. As they parted, Nancy, a lifelong local hiker, worried about Katharina. The German didnt have snowshoes and wasnt prepared for the next leg of the trip, which negotiated Glacier Peak. Nancy tried to dissuade Katharina from continuing, but to no avail. Katharina was five months into her trip. She wasnt about to quit.

Katharina soon regretted her decision. When conditions turned deadly, she realized she didnt have everything she needed for the elements. Her clothing was soaked, and her shoes were no match for the snow and ice. She became dehydrated and hungry, with only a Pop-Tart left in her pack. One of her two tarps blew away, and she lost two pairs of gloves. Frostbite set in. She had no phone service.

Soon, Katharina came to believe she would perish in the wilds of the North Cascades. She even started composing goodbye messages to her loved ones.

Then she heard a sound through the biting wind: blades chopping the air. A rescue helicopter appeareda HAWK1 from Snohomish, flying low and sweeping just under the heavy clouds. The pilots had their heads out, following Katharinas tracks in the snow until they finally spotted her in her red jacket near a stand of old timber.

How did the rescue team know to look for her? How did they find her?

The credit goes to Nancy Abell, who couldnt stop thinking about her new friend. Seeing the storm blowing in, she instinctively knew Katharina was in trouble. Nancy notified the authorities, and the search was on. Katharina was saved.

Like a hiker in the wild, we sometimes find ourselves stranded and isolated, caught in an unexpected storm, even endangered by lifes circumstances. Its dangerous to be ill-equipped for the journey. When we havent packed the right gear, were underprepared, overexposed, and at risk of the elements.
