Beyond Prewrath: End-Time Prophecy: summary, description and annotation

The pretribulation view of end-times prophecy states that a silent rapture will occur before the seventieth week of Daniel, which is believed to start the wrath of God. This commonly held perspective is reflected in the popular books and videos from Tim LaHayes Left Behind series and in the Scofield Reference Bible.

The prewrath view claims that believers will not be raptured until after Satans great tribulation. This book presents a new prewrath position where the rapture occurs in Revelation 8:5 with a great eschatological theophany of peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake and the same day is the wrath of God in Revelation 8:6-7ff. These three back-to-back verses seem to form a strong rapture position. As a consequence of the rapture the multitude in heaven will arrive with Revelation 7:9-17. Supporting this position are four Scriptural reasons that not all Scripture is chronological among many other supporting reasons. Two other theophanys in Revelation 11:19 and 16:18 with similar eschatological implications will be discussed.

The rapture of the church will be presented as possibly occurring on either the seventh or eighth day of the seventh open seal. This is based on Jesus analogy to Noah as recorded in Luke 17:26-27, Genesis 7:4, and Revelation 8:1-5. This position is in agreement with Scripture that no one will know the day (Matthew 24:36) since it is over a two day window (seventh or eight day). A narrow range of durations of the sixth open seal will be determined based in large part on the holy one asking the question in Daniel 8:13 and the other holy one answering the question in Daniel 8:14. This then forms an equation of equality which can be solved. Parallels among Daniel, Matthew 24 and Revelation 6 will provide believers advance notice to the start of the seventieth week of Daniel. There will be shown to be several separate eschatological days of the Lord and days of Christ.

The relationship with the man of lawlessness, Antichrist, the beast, son of destruction, little horn, Satan, and other names will be made. There will be shown to be two types of beasts. One beast rises from of the sea (Revelation 13:1-10) will be proposed to be the ten kings (Revelation 17) and the second beast rising out of the sea (Revelation 13:11-18) to be the Antichrist. The Antichrist being a man (the man of lawlessness) who is empowered (by Satan) on Day 1. Three eschatological campaigns of Jesus will be discussed: Jerusalem, Jehoshaphat, and Armageddon. The eighth head (revived fourth kingdom) is proposed to be a multi-kingdom. The sixth head is proposed to be both Roman and Jewish. The 70 AD Jerusalem attack appears to have eschatological implications.

One prevalent misconception is that Acts 2:17-21 is associated with the sixth opened seal, though nowhere is blood and fire mentioned in Revelation 6:12-17. Darkness, blood, and fire will be Scripturally shown to only be found in the Jehoshaphat campaign which is part of the sixth blown trumpet. A new simplified nomenclature is proposed where the middle of the seventieth week is Day 1, which would align with the counting of Daniel 12:12. It will be proposed that there are many events occurring on Day 1 in Israel with the epicenter of the conflict is Jerusalem.

The first eschatological day of the Lord will be proposed to probably occur on Day 1. This day of the Lord is associated with 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2. Many think the first eschatological day of the Lord will not occur until the day of the rapture and Gods wrath. This new understanding seems to move the chronology of the fourth opened seal (tribulation of Revelation 6:9) to the first half of the seventieth...

A special thanks to my eschatology teacher, who directed me as I studied end-time events and calculations. After seeing chapter 3, he recommended I write a book. A special thanks to my friend Karen, who reviewed the developing manuscript almost every weekend for about six months. A special thanks to my church classmates, who listened to my presentations, as well as others who reviewed the manuscript.

Preface

This book provides dramatic new eschatological understandings of the end-time prophecies found throughout the Bible and connects them together to show a timeline of events. But why should anyone bother to study something as esoteric as end-time prophecy? Well, the first reason is the promise that you will be blessed for it (Rev. 1:3). Who does not want to be blessed? The second reason is that every verse of Scripture is the inspired word of God, which should be studied and taught (2 Tim. 3:16a). Third, why would God give us the bleak message of a great tribulation? The only reasonable answer is that our loving God wants us to be forewarned and prepared against false prophetsthe deception that will be rampant during the seventieth week of Daniel. Being forewarned, we will not to be led astray from the truth and will be waiting for the sign of His coming. Unfortunately, some who are not knowledgeable of Scripture may fall away into the deception of apostasy. This book describes the signs of Christs return and will hopefully help explain the seemingly esoteric eschatology of the Bible, preparing us for the man of lawlessness and Antichrist.

Abbreviations

The abbreviation Day 1 is used by far the most frequently for the start date of these events. It refers to when the abomination of destruction of the temple occurs, which ends the twice-daily temple sacrifices. This then begins the great tribulation for the Gentiles and Jacobs trouble for the Jewish tribes. The 1,290 and 1,335 days of Daniel 12:1112 count from Day 1.

Chapter 1
Premillennial and Seventy Weeks of Daniel

premillennialism and amillennialism

Premillennialism interprets Revelation 20:16 to mean that Jesus will physically return to earth to reign for a literal thousand years. Amillennialism interprets this millennium as symbolic. Many amillennial denominations, such as Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican, generally view this passage of Revelation as pertaining to the present time, when Christ reigns in heaven with the departed saints. This interpretation views Revelation as referring to a spiritual reign rather than a physical reign on earth. The amillennialist view is that the kingdom of Christ has been present in the church since the events of Pentecost in the book of Acts.

parousiaa coming or presence

S Scripture verses associated with the coming of Christ include Matthew 24:3, 27; 1 Corinthians 15:23; 1 Thessalonians 2:19; 4:15; 5:23; James 5:8; and 1 John 2:28. But context is important. In 1 Corinthians 16:17, parousia is associated with the disciples. In 2 Thessalonians 2:9, we have the coming (parousia) of the lawless one.

The first parousia of Jesus was when He came as the Lamb of God, which encompasses different aspects of His life from birth until His ascension in Acts 1:611. The second parousia is when Jesus returns as a lion in Jeremiah 49:19, which will also involve different aspects of His presence and coming. In chapters 3, 7, and 8 of this book, the author will identify at least six parousia events during the Lords second coming. See figure 1.

harpazsnatching AWAY the saints (rapture)

Strongs Concordance defines the Greek verb

The word rapture comes from the concept of being seized or snatched away. In his book Antichrist Before the Day of the Lord, Dr. Alan Kurschner describes why the word rapture is appropriate.

In the early church, one of the very first translations of the Bible was in Latin, and the translator chose rapio as the appropriate Latin verb to translate harpaz. Some have denied that the Bible teaches the rapture since the English term is not found in any English translations (even though the term rapture would be a very appropriate rendering for an English translation). This surface-level argument is not convincing since the concept of the rapture is clearly taught in I Thessalonians 4:17. The lack of the term itself is not unusual because many English theological terms are not found in the Bible while their concepts are found therein. Examples include the Trinity, monotheism, inspiration, omniscience, and scores of others. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up [harpaz] together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord (1 Thess. 4:17, emphasis added).
