Chapter 1: The Secret To Standing Out On Amazon
A mazon is like our human population...it just keeps growing.
With millions of registered users and books available online, Amazon has opened a whole new market for authors. Gone are the days when you had to go through a traditional publishing house in the hopes of getting your work published. Amazon has allowed authors (such as yourself and moi) to easily publish, market, and sell books to millions of potential customers. Their platform allows us to do this cheaply, quickly, and effectively, without ever leaving our house. All we need is an Amazon account, computer, and internet connection.
If you think about it, there has never been a better time to be an author. Every day, authors and sellers are making a good living by selling books and products on Amazon (I know I am). In fact, it's not uncommon for many authors to be earning thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars a month by publishing on Amazon!
However, with this easy access, it also leads to increased competition...With thousands of new books being published each day, this makes it harder to get discovered by potential customers. So, unless youre a big-time author or have a huge following, standing out can be difficult.
So, what's the best way to rise above the sea of competition?
By optimizing your Amazon book listing.
Besides having a great cover and getting positive reviews, one of the best ways to optimize your book listing is with a compelling book description.
An effective book description (or blurb) hooks readers, draws them in, and gets them to click that Buy now button. However, a poor description creates a poor impression and kills potential sales.
If you can infuse your book description with persuasive words and targeted keywords, youll be maximizing the chances of customers purchasing your book.
However, you will be surprised how many poorly written descriptions I have come across on Amazon. After all, you dont want to wimp out on your book description after spending all those months (or even years) writing your manuscript, do you?
Your books listing has to entice readers and convince them that your book is what they need to read. Basically, if you cant convince customers to buy your book, its going to be hard to succeed on Amazon.
Think of your Amazon book listing as your personal salesperson for your book. Once you have it up there, its selling your book 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to millions of potential customers.
Hence, it is crucial that you have an attention-grabbing headline, profitable keywords, and an irresistible description.
Before we dive in, I want to explain how this book is organized so you can get the most out of it.
First, it's focused mainly on optimizing your book description to boost conversions. For this reason, I won't be going in-depth on other aspects (such as designing covers, running ads, how to title your book, selling on other platforms, etc.) since that's beyond the scope of this book.
Second, the book is designed to be practical. Ill cover different aspects of the Amazon book listing and description and offer tips to keep in mind. Ive also included an "Action Plan" for you to complete to allow you to practice what you read from each chapter.
Lastly, if there is something you don't understand, you can always contact me. Im a professional copywriter and author and have self-published a number of bestsellers in different niches. Ive also helped numerous authors and sellers to optimize their listings and increase their sales on Amazon. I'm fully committed to giving you everything you need to take your self-publishing business to the next level.
So, are you ready to take your Amazon book descriptions up a notch? Lets get started!
Chapter 2: Why Should You Publish on Amazon
A mazon has changed the publishing world. It gives authors the ability to self publish their work without having to go through traditional publishers. These days, there are numerous ways to publish books online, such as Smashwords and Kobo. However, the biggest and most lucrative one has to be Amazon self-publishing.
Amazon gives anyone regardless if you are a seasoned author or writer the ability to publish their works on their platform. Anyone with a computer and internet connection can use Amazon to start selling their books. Whether you write about health, cooking, romance, travel, or science fiction, there is a market out there interested in your work. The key is to get it in front of them - and Amazon does this better than any other platform.
