How Bad Do You Want to Lose Weight?: summary, description and annotation

Ive wanted to write a book on weight loss for several years but never found enough time. My personal story with weight loss was my inspiration. I dont have a journalism background or any formal training but because writing this book was very important to me, I worked several months putting this book together. Ive been somewhere between chubby and thin all my life. It wasnt until I reached 50 years of age that I made a conscious decision to stop yo-yoing and keep the extra weight off. It does take time to lose weight. I lost a total of 60 pounds and have kept it off for more than 10 years now. Im a senior and just recently lost another 5 pounds of body fat. I dont think anyone realizes how hard it is to carry around extra body fat until you become a senior. I dont try to lose weight anymore but I am trying to build muscle while I lose fat. Today I weigh the same as I did in High School. Im working on building muscle these days and that means body weight exercise and Yoga to keep me limber and improve my balance. Its great to still be able to ride a bike or jog around the neighborhood. Ive read hundreds of books, posts and newsletters from health and fitness websites and have done extensive research for this book and found that the science of weight loss is more well-defined today. Its not as much trial and error as before. Much of what you see on the internet seems to be advertisement for products. Most sites seem to be selling something and most of us are tired of trying diets or pills that dont work. I want to try and change your mind about losing weight. It may be easier than you thing. There are several good website that offer helpful information free. Check out my list of SOURCES on the last page. There are many good sites I didnt list, but those on my source page are the ones I used to write this book. I believe its about getting back to basics. Most of us put on body fat when were still in school because we eat too much of all the wrong foods. As an adult we add body fat from eating the wrong foods, thats true, but also because we become less active. In school most of us are into sports, working out every day and as students we do more walking. Now we work at a desk most of the day and are only active on the weekends. Back to basics in short means theres no short cuts to losing weight. Youll have to start from scratch; forget everything you thought you knew about losing weight and forget about all those foods you love. The reason why most people arent successful losing weight is that they dont want to give up their old life. They dont want to give up their favorite foods or the overindulging after work and on weekends. Oh sure, they will sacrifice for a little while, but the thought of never eating those big meals again or those rich foods, thats too much sacrifice; there must be an easier way. If you really want to lose the body fat, and keep it off, you have to get healthy and stay healthy the rest of your life. Because its not really about losing weight as much as it is about losing the extra body fat that your body has to keep alive and its doing nothing for you except to drain your bodys energy. Thats the reason most of us dont worry about losing weight until their over 50. When youre over 50 you can feel that loss of energy. Before that most of us still have plenty of energy so we arent concerned about our weight. Being thin and fit is a sign of being healthy and today that helps you in your career, your social life, relationships and gives you more energy to accomplish more. It doesnt cost money to lose weight, so anyone regardless of their income can change their life, lose weight and get healthy. I did it without buying any equipment, special meals or any diet pills and Im going to tell you how.

Ive wanted to write a book on weight loss for several years, but never found enough time. My personal story with weight loss was my inspiration. I dont have a journalism background or any formal training but, because writing this book was very important to me, I worked several months putting this book together.
Ive been somewhere between chubby and thin all my life. It wasnt until I reached 50 years of age that I made a conscious decision to stop yo-yoing and keep the extra weight off. It does take time to lose weight. I lost a total of 60 pounds and have kept it off for more than 10 years now.
In school most of us are into sports, working out every day and as students we do more walking. Now we work at a desk most of the day and are only active on the weekends.
Thats the reason most of us dont worry about losing weight until were over 50. When were over 50 we can feel that loss of energy. Before that most of us still have plenty of energy so we arent concerned about our weight.
Being thin and fit is a sign of being healthy, and today that helps you in your career, your social life, and your relationships and it gives you greater energy to accomplish more.
It doesnt cost money to lose weight, so all people, regardless of their income, can change their lives, lose weight, and get healthy. I did it without buying any equipment, special meals, or any diet pills, and Im going to tell you how. I have to admit that I was never seriously overweight so it may have been a little easier for me. Having said that, I did weigh 220 pounds and I now weigh 160. But even at 220 I didnt think I was that much overweight. Maybe thats denial, but as long as I felt okay I never thought about the extra fat. I had been a 36 waist all my adult life until I got into my late 40s and then it seemed that all at once I needed a size 38 pants. It was my wife who finally convinced me that I was overweight. I needed to do something.
The word diet comes from the Greek word dieta which means manner of living. Somehow the people of today have interpreted the word to mean a temporary way of eating. Some of us actually think of a diet as a starvation period of time that lasts a few weeks, we lose the weight or fit into those clothes again, and then we can go back to our old lives. That never works well for anyone except the owners of companies that sell weight loss products. Weight loss products, diet pills, gym equipment, and gym memberships make up the weight loss industry which makes billions of dollars a year. Then there are the doctors that do weight-loss surgery, the weight loss counselors, dieticians, trainers, and health spas, or what people refer to as Fat Farms. Thats another billion-dollar industry made up of all service businesses. Now our government has gotten involved in healthcare and is creating more government programs to help overweight people.
I believe that education will be the only way that we solve this health problem. It will have to start with the grade school children. I wrote this book for older adults who now realize the problems they have because of their overweight conditions. As an adult over 40, reality will finally slap you in the face, and its usually when your Doctor tells you youre pre-diabetic. If you dont lose some weight youll be taking insulin or a similar drug for the rest of your life. That was too much reality for me, and thats when I decided to do something. I tried to diet and I quit time and time again. I always seemed to be too busy, and I always returned to whatever was convenient.
Today most of the world population is facing the same problem. That said, today we are very fortunate to have information at the tip of our fingers. Information travels faster than the speed of light in this internet world we live in and most of it is free.
I wrote this book to help you understand that losing weight isnt that hard and it doesnt have to cost a lot of money. There are many untruths perpetuated by those who are in the weight loss business and are selling something. Most people think that there must be an easy way to lose weight, a magic pill, but I havent found one. The best and the safest way to lose weight is to get back to basics. Get healthy and stay healthy, and the body fat will melt away. The truth is it takes time. Theres no quick way to lose weight safely. When you do drop weight quickly, its generally because of a health problem, and in a few weeks the weight comes back. If you try to lose weight quickly by restricting your food, you only deprive your body of nutrition and youll become weak and tired.
