Ive made my living as a successful indie artist, music executive and manager to many well-known recording artists that Im sure you see or have heard every day so now its time to show all inspiring artists and future execs just how I did it. Now I cant guarantee your success because that all depends on the quality of your music image and music videos, but I will say if you follow these steps accordingly and utilize all of my contacts youll be on your way to being noticed talked about and hopefully earn a handsome income from the passion you love and have worked so hard over the years. In 2006 I gave the world of inspiring artists the path to success releasing music digitally reminding all that the digital era would be the new standard ongoing and would change the face of music as we know it. Now its time to build on that and make even bigger strides in your musical career. First be realistic, how do you see your career as an artist or executive? Do you honestly believe your music is as compatible if not better than whats out there? Can you compete with the heavy hitters? And are you ready to be seen and heard by the masses? If you answer these questions honestly and you still desire to be successful releasing your music or starting your own label, then lets get started. In what seems like a past life, the only way to release an album was through a record label.
The label had the money to pay for your recording, the ability to distribute it around the world, and the marketing resources to make sure people knew your album was hitting the stores. Today, any resourceful individual with a little bit of money and a lot of creativity can make an album commercially available to the same number of people as a major label. Now there are many factors to consider when releasing your own music. They may not apply to everyone, but it always helps to know your options on where and how to properly release your music in todays competitive market. ST Put together a solid album that is equal or better to that which the consumer and general music public is hearing today. I mean lets be frank about this one, If your music sounds like crap whos going to buy it? So keep in mind that before you can even consider releasing you MUST have the best quality original music you can ever produce.
Shit! make a classic. nd Think about where it should be released how these stores work, and what the advantages and disadvantages are to each option. Your music should be available in as many places as possible, but only direct traffic to two or three destinations. Your goal is to make it possible for people to find you at their preferred store, but also to select a couple specific options for your fans. The only choice they should have to make is to buy or not to buy, not where to buy. Furthermore, it is more valuable to concentrate the bulk of your sales in one place because, thanks to the internet, you will have a better shot at making some sort of Top Sellers chart.
Not to mention, a well trafficked album page (with lots of reviews, recommendations, etc.) will encourage people that dont know you to give your music a try. In all cases, a portion of the sale price will go to the store, distributor, or whatever company is facilitating the credit card transaction as a fee. This is standard, and the only way to really avoid it would be to exchange your CD for money face to face with the person buying it, and ideally not in front of an IRS building. But keep in mind that as an independent artist, youre making a much larger percentage per sale than an artist signed to a label. So accept reasonable transaction fees in exchange for convenience, reach, and service, and even is some cases many retailers charge a small one-time fee with you retaining 100% of your profits. Production/Producers In this chapter were going to cover one of the most important aspects of preparing your music.
Besides you having great song lyrics youre going to have to make sure your productions tight! Many artists make the mistake of disregarding how important the beat itself to the songs you record are. Its pretty much the sauce to your pasta the seasoning to your meal so in other words its what make your tracks worth listening to especially when it can make people dance and constantly nod their heads. Imaging hearing a song with a wack beat or one that doesnt even match the lyrical content why would you even bother if it doesnt move you? You wouldnt! and thats pretty much how every music fan and potential consumer feels about it when selecting what to listen to or buy, especially new artists theyve never heard of, so dont run the risk of thinking just because you great at word play its enough to build A great fan and or consumer base for your particular brand of music. So in this chapter Ill give you a list of some great up and coming producers as well as sites you can search some great producers from all over the world waiting to work with you for your next project regardless of your location or genre. Now I know you may be thinking producers are expensive but Im going to show you how to lease beats under contracts and or buy tracks for very low money exclusively by using a credit card and pay pal in just one click of a button so all your music sounds tight, so if you can spend what it takes to buy a sandwich a drink and tickets to a movie on a date then trust me you can afford to create some extremely great tracks for your album or single to compete with the big wigs in the game. 1. 1.
