LANHYDROCK

This magnificent 17th-century mansion in the Fowey Valley is one of Englands grandest country houses. Built by a rich merchant, Sir Richard Robartes, and reconstructed in 1881 following a disastrous fire, it remained in the same family until the National Trust took it over in 1953. Though parts of the Jacobean building survived, notably its famous Long Gallery, the dominant style is that of the High Victorian era. Some 50 visitable rooms offer a glimpse into life inside a stately home, from the huge kitchens to Lady Robartes boudoir.
