Introduction

F or most people the lottery is some mystery. Theres so much you just dont know about the lottery, how it works, where the money goes, who makes the profits, exactly how the numbers are picked. And if you play the lottery, understanding these simple things about the system that you willingly give your money to is crucial to any success you might have.

The more you know, the better prepared you are to reap the rewards.

For the past fifteen years, Ive been employed by a large state lottery and come to know how the system works pretty well. From tickets to systems to the crazy political games that you think doesnt affect the outcomes (youd be wrong), I have worked everywhere and seen it all. Because theres not much difference in how this game is played across the states, there arent many people like myself who understand the system and can speak about it with any degree of authority, and someone who has worked in every facet of the business remains rarer still.

I wanted to write this book to help people playing the lottery better understand what they are getting themselves into. Its a deceptively complicated subject. Of course, perusing Amazons list of lottery experts and their cant miss systems for winning you might come to the opposite conclusion. I actually purchased a few of those books and found nearly all of them wanting. So, I felt compelled to write something from an insiders perspective so I can show what really happens and what works. Im just tired of seeing people operating on bad information, making decisions that could put their families and loved ones in jeopardy. If you play the lottery with the intent of making some money, then please read on, you might learn more than you wanted to know.

An INSIDER SECRET

H eres a secret I feel comfortable revealing now that some time has passed, one that most people would never guess.

I wont reveal names or level any specific accusations at a particular person or organization, but I think its important that you know this. Some of the biggest names in the Lottery book business are paid shills of the lottery industry.

Thats right, in order to get their best customers to keep spending more money, some authors secretly received money in order to write books that encouraged people to play the lottery more.

One thing I cant prove is that they win their lotteries with help from the inside. While tampering from below is not possible, fixing the lottery from above is completely within their abilities.

Think about it, you invest several thousands of taxpayer money in order to get billions in extra revenue over the years. I wont name names but if you follow or read these kinds of books you would recognize them as the buy a lot of tickets folks.

There is one in particular that has made the buy more tickets strategy his whole brand.

I know that this happened because I was part of a strategy meeting going over the potential implication and benefits of such a strategy, then a year later I saw it being implemented.

I know the invention of eBooks has made it even easier to write and publish a book, but just beware who it is thats selling you a system.

A note about this book

I ll warn you upfront, this book is not long. Thats partly because Im not a wordy writer, I like to get to the point, but also because I cant stand when books are padded with useless information or too complicated. It seems like they think that the longer your book is, and the harder you make it to understand, the more you can charge for it. Ive tried my best, with some help from another author, to make this book easy to understand and very accessible. If there are typos or misspellings, even bad grammar, I apologize. I chose to not contact a publisher and just do this myself to get the information out in the way it needed to be done. That means I didnt have to bend to a publishers need to fill a book with hundreds of pages of useless nonsense when it would be better with far fewer. I think readers appreciate when a writer gets the point.

For instance, an orthodox book about the lottery would have a whole chapter about lotteries, how they started, what the popular games are, and other historical information. Thats not what you want to read, though. You want to know the insides of the system and I imagine you could care less if the earliest lotteries were keno slips in China around 200 BC. Its interesting information but Wikipedia does a better job of describing these things than I could.

In short, you get a smaller book thats focused on the right information you want.

About the lottery

I do think its perfectly natural for people to be curious about lotteries, though. Its a system that you pay in a few dollars and have the potential to win millions. Think about it, where else can you find something that will give you so much for so little effort. Of course, the odds are not in your favor, most of the time, but thats what makes it exciting. You might lose, but you also MIGHT WIN! Something about human psychology, thats been written about to death in other books, makes us want to jump for that brass ring. I dont blame people for that, Ive been tempted myself honestly.

When people find out what I do for a living, they naturally ask a lot of questions. Of course, everyone wants to know, and they always ask on the sly like its going to be just our secret, what the next winning numbers will be. I have to tell them that it doesnt work like that, and I actually dont get the numbers in advance. They always say something like Oh I know that! but in a slightly disappointed way, as if Im lying to them. After the initial How can we win? questions, people settle down and start asking more intelligent questions, honestly seeking to be informed. Over the years, Ive written down the best ones and have presented them here along with some other thoughts.

The format of this book is simple, Ive included a question and answer type portion first. Rather than just list things like you see in most books I decided to change things up a little. You can actually learn a lot about the world of lotteries, and the people that play them, just from a few questions. Then, I will give you my own thoughts on the lottery, winning the lottery, and why people really play (its not what you think). At the end, I will even recommend a few decent lottery books that have come out that explain some systems of winning that might work based on my knowledge.
