When the best student hears about the way
He practices it assiduously;
When the average student hears about the way
It seems to him one moment there and gone the next;
When the worst student hears about the way
He laughs out loud.
If he did not laugh it would not be worthy
of being the way.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Brad Olsen grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and graduated from Illinois State University in 1988 with a Marketing and Art degree. Rather than pursue a career in advertising, Brad treated himself to a summer of fun in Europe immediately following his collegiate commitments. This trip changed his life. Rather than chase the almighty dollar, Brad made a new commitment to chase the almighty fun. This meant there would be no career, no family, basically no commitments until he was well into his 30's.
Thus began one of the wildest and wackiest travel odysseys any young person could ever experience. After three fun-filled months on the European circuit, Brad returned to his hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois and knew he had to move on. He packed up what he could, including his skis, and moved to Lake Tahoe, California just prior to the first snowfall. Without a place to stay or a job, Brad quickly made some core friends and landed a job selling skis for Heavenly Ski Resort within a week. After two winters and an extremely adventurous summer in Tahoe, Brad moved to the surf-town

of Santa Cruz, California, where he spent six months drawing cartoons. He then headed out to Maui, Hawaii, selling activities for seven months. Nice life, huh? Well for Brad, the best was yet to come.
After leaving the Hawaiian Islands to attend his brother's wedding, Brad made a stopover at his adventure alma mater Lake Tahoe for some extreme skiing. A lady there told Brad of the teaching opportunities that awaited people like him in Japan. With no plans except to seek maximum fun in his 20's, Brad heeded this advice and bought a one-way ticket to Tokyo. It didn't take long before he found a job teaching conversational English in the beautiful and historic Japanese city of Kyoto. This provided our author the necessary funds to execute the ultimate adventurea three-year trip around the world. Brad lived and worked in Japan for 14 months, then started his overland journey across China. He was one of the first American travelers allowed into Vietnam, then he went onwards to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia. Utilizing his cartooning skills, Brad drew portraits of tourists in Cairns, then hitchhiked down and around the whole continent. Moving on from Australia, Brad visited India for half a year, including a month in Nepal trekking in the mighty Himalayas. Finishing up his world tour, Brad climbed to the top of the Great Pyramid in Egypt, went on to Israel, then did another stint in Europe before returning once again to Chicago. The complete story of his world tour is a popular and award-winning website. Internet users set a bookmark at: http://www.stompers.com.
