Legend of the Rainbow Eater: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Legend of the Rainbow Eater" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

Sometimes the end of the rainbow...is the belly of a beast.

When the Blackouts search for the legendary Wishing Mist leads them to a maple syrup festival in the town of Mapleton, sticky situations abound. Bodies are going missing from the local funeral parlor, hellhound gypsies prowl the woods, giant, automaton teddy bears may or may not be staging a hostile takeover, and theres a whopping good chance that will-o-the-wisps, the magical inhabitants of the Wishing Mist, are behind it all.

Even with help from their future selves and a time traveling diary, Rose and Marek have their hands full (and not just with ice cream cones from a parlor that services the living as well as the dead). The will-o-the-wisps were responsible for bringing them together five years ago, and now it looks like the only way to stop their mischief is to find the Wishing Mist and wish it out of existence-will-o-the-wisps included.

Some thank-you for the greatest friendship in the multiverse, huh?

Dear Diary And by Diary of course I mean you Reader Name Here and - photo 3

Dear Diary,

And by Diary of course, I mean you, Reader Name Here _____ and whichever of myselves decide to crash our party.

Any day now.

Literally ANY day. This is time travel, here. You have no excuses showing up late to a time travel party! ~Rose Skylar, 1527 A.S.

Oh, I can think of a few, Little Me. We cant ALWAYS be at the beck and call of our younger selves, you know. There are other, important Paradoxy things to do besides helping you on your latest adventure. (Though Im happy to oblige.) ~Rose Skylar, 1529 A.S.

Finally, a response! (Even if its a snarky one.) Did you get the petoskey stone memo? Because its kinda hard to miss a BLINKING RED STONE on the front of your diary. Where are the rest of the Rosadoxes? ~1527 A.S.

Present and accounted for. ~1529 A.S.

Youre it? ~1527 A.S.

Not for long with an attitude like that. ~1529 A.S.

No, no! Its just last time there were more of us. ~1527 A.S.

And this time theres me. Look, last book was an initiation. We cant ALL be involved in every adventure. Do we look like were made of time? (Dont answer that. Youll hurt your brain.) I dont see why youre complaining. ~1529 A.S.

Im not complaining! ~1527 A.S.

No, but I know what youre thinking. Youre thinking, Of all the mes in the worlds, why did it have to be you? Why couldnt it be 1530 or 1532? Someone with a bit more experience and a lot less snark. Someone who can calm my nerves because Im terrified of starting my second time travelers diary. ~1529 A.S.

Well I am a little terrified. And you are a little snarky. ~1527 A.S.

Can you at least give me a chance to wow you with my wisdom? ~1529 A.S.

I always give myself a chance. Wow away. Whats your best advice for starting our second diary? ~1527 A.S.

Turn Reader Name Here _____ into a reader of many hats. A recap, a madcap, and a thinking cap should do the trick. Recaps are for summarizing things from our first diary and whatevers happened so far in the story. Madcaps are for protecting our darling readers head when things get crazy. And thinking caps are for when things get confusing and/or complicated. ~1529 A.S.

Thats a lotta hats to wear. ~1527 A.S.

Dont worry. If you tell the story well, theyll all be coming off to you in the end. Now, second piece of advice: break the rules. Its been said that readers think dream sequences are boring, pointless, and add nothing to the story. Lets see what Reader Name Here _____ thinks at the end of this one. Clichs are only clichs till someone turns em inside out and stuffs em with a Rose. Then theyre called sachets, which smell so much better.

And thirdly, I know what your biggest fear is about starting our second diary. Youre thinking, What if the first one was the best? What if that was the highlight of my life and every other adventure will be dull by comparison? Spoiler alert: its not. ~1529 A.S.

How can you be so sure? ~1527 A.S.

Because you havent read mine yet. So grab your teddy bear, Reader Name Here _____ (though you might regret it later), and cozy up. Weve got a story to tell. ~1529 A.S.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM WITH ME
I t was teatime The gazebo floated on the foamy gray sea bobbing serenely - photo 4

I t was teatime.

The gazebo floated on the foamy gray sea, bobbing serenely. Waves spilled over the sides and across the toes of the angels gathered around the table. Fat raindrops fell from the bleak sky, spattering the gazebos roof, and thunder rumbled in the distance.

Perfect weather for a tea party.

This is nice, isnt it? Rose said to the group. All of us together. Having tea. Every guest was in their place, save for the empty chair beside her. Isnt it nice?

There was a round of noncommittal shrugs and dispassionate slurps.

Being together like thiswe shouldnt take it for granted. Right?

Mumbles around the table. Sephone squeezed a sphere of jellied rainbow candy, goo oozing between thumb and forefinger as she stared absently into the distance. Dipping his pinky in his tea, Aiden was writing something on the tablecloth, and his spiky-haired mother, Elektra, fiddled with the mini umbrella peeking over the side of her drink. Cade inspected her appearance in the back of a teaspoon like she wanted nothing more than to use her soul signia to jump through the reflective surface and escape into the mirror world, while Malachy scratched his abnormally long beard in observable boredom. Elderly twins Zephyr and Miss Cassie took twin drinks of their tea cups, draining the dregs in sync.

Zephyr eyed the bottom of his cup in relief. It looks like weve finished!

Miss Cassie pushed back her chair. I suppose that means we should be going.

Wait! Rose scrambled up, seizing the teapot. Ill pour you more.

Ignoring their protests, she tipped the spout over their teacups. Brown liquid gushed, but the cups wouldnt fill. She poured and poured, but they were like bottomless pits, gulping down tea till there was nothing left in the pot. She rattled it in disbelief. How could cups be so thirsty?

Miss Cassie touched her arm. Its been a lovely tea party, Rose, but we really have to go.

No! I can make more! But Miss Cassie and Zephyr were already shaking out their ivory wings. They took flight from the gazebo and into the rainstorm.

Elektra frowned at her cup. My teas gone cold. And since theres nothing left to replace it with She stretched her wings and leaped over the gazebo railing before Rose could even object.

Sephone scowled at her cup and pushed it away. This tea isnt strong enough. Weak tea is for the weak. I refuse to drink your insults.

Seph! But she was gone, too.

Rose looked helplessly at Aiden. He took a sip of his tea, winced, and tossed the rest over his shoulder. Its not you. Me and tea just dont rhyme. And he followed the others flying across the endless stormy sea.

It was only Cade and Malachy now. Cade, Malachy, and the empty chair at Roses side. Tears pooled in her eyes, and she bit her wobbling lip. Please dont leave. I can fix it. Whatevers wrong with your tea, Ill fix it. Just please dont leave.

They both heaved heavy sighs like the obligation to her tea party weighed painfully on their chests. Malachys beard had grown so long that Cade was braiding the ends of it in her lap. She propped a spoon against an abandoned mug and continued admiring her reflection.
