In Good-bye, Bumps!, Saje Dyer, daughter of best-selling author Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, tells a remarkable story from her childhood in which she was able to overcome a physical condition in a very unique way. In the telling of her story she teaches children the important lesson that when something is bothering them, they can change their attitude toward it and not allow it to have power over them.

This story will help kids understand that some things about themselves can be changed and others will always be with them, but what matters is how they choose to think about these things. In addition to its valuable lesson, this charming story will remind all readers, both young and old, of what can be done with the childlike belief in what is possible.

My mom and dad took me to the doctor.
The doctor said I could take some medicine, or
I could wait and they might go away on their own.

I decided to wait and see.

One day, I was stomping around the house, pouting about my bumps. My dad said, Hey, those bumps sure seem to be making you unhappy.
I have an interesting idea that you could try
maybe you could talk to your bumps.

What do you mean? I asked.
Well, Dad said, look in the mirror
and really talk to them. Out loud.
Say something like, Hi, bumps,
maybe there is a reason you are
here. Thanks for coming, but I
am ready for you to go now.
And whether you stay or go, I am

It sounded weird, but my dad is a smart guy
and by then I was willing to try anything.
So that night I crawled under my covers with a
flashlight and had a little chat with my bumps.
I said, I dont know why you are here, but I
would really like you to leave. Im letting

Think of your cousin Curtie. He is very shy. If you were shy like
him, you could say to yourself: Hey, self, I know you are shy. There
is nothing wrong with that, and I know it is a part of me. But I am
ready to say good-bye to being shy and feeling bad about it.

Now, you wouldnt instantly become not shy at all, but as you change your feelings about being shy, you will begin to notice a difference in the way you act.

Sometimes, you may not be able to change
somethingmaybe you were born with it.
I am a good example of that. When I was
younger, I didnt like my freckles. I had millions
of them. I wasted a lot of my time thinking
about them and wishing they would
magically disappear. Then one day, I decided
to let go of my bad feelings about my freckles
and make peace with the fact that they are
a part of who I am. After a while, I even
started to like them a little bit!

Now of course, some things that people were

But whether you can change something or not,
the point is: Stop giving it power over you. That means,
dont let it be the most important, biggest thing in
your life, and you will notice some changes.
