application server In a three-tiered application architecture, the application server coordinates operations between the client (which handles the presentation tasks) and the data server (which handles database operations).
business logic Implements the business rules that apply to the application. These rules govern what data values are accessible to the client for a given situation. Sometimes implemented as stored procedures.

COM+ An extension to the Component Object Model. Features extensions and enhancements of core Windows services, improved scalability, and flexibility.
