Preface
This book entitles Service Excellence for SustainabilityLessons from Malaysia, Japan, and Taiwan contains a collection of articles written by a keynote and invited speakers at the 2nd Service Science Symposium held on 24th November 2019. This book provides a significant conceptual and empirical contribution to understanding service science and service sectors practices in the wake of industrial revolution 4.0. There are seven chapters in this book. The chapter contributors discuss the service economys growth and how it remains sustainable in the current service trends. Multiple real-world cases of service systems from Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan are presented in this book.
The Service Science symposium is a symposium organised by the Serviceology Society Malaysia (SESMA), established on 29th July 2018. The society aims to bring service researchers and practitioners under one roof to redefine service concepts and ideas and explore the application of these concepts and ideas in real industrial and community settings. The word Serviceology used in naming the society was first coined by the Japanese Serviceology Society, where -ology is used for creating new logic. It explores the theoretical structures of service concepts and generates scientific systematisation of services and products from the transdisciplinary science and technology viewpoints, promoting technological developments in solving industrial and social issues.
Serviceology Society Malaysia (SESMA) vision is to lead society in service science and service innovation to strengthen Malaysias service economy. The society mainly focuses on the co-creation of service value by facilitating effective networking and collaboration among the university, industry, and community members to achieve a sustainable Malaysian service economy. With this vision, we strongly hope that this book would promote knowledge sharing and emphasise service science essential and accelerate innovation in various research fields on services utilising a common theoretical understanding. And not just that, we hope this book will draw attention from scholars and practitioners not only from Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan but from the Asia-Pacific region too.
We want to thank the chapter authors for their contributions to this book. The names and short biographies of the authors are in the respective chapters.
