What Others Are Saying
"This book is an absolute treasure trove of ideas for winning the mental game of being a writer. Whether you want to finally finish your book, feel more confident about your writing, or think more like a marketer, this book can help you. In a word: Fantastic!"
Dana Wilde, Author & Host of the Mind Aware Show
"Essential reading for writers ready to go pro."
Tom Morkes, CEO Insurgent Publishing
"Of all the roadblocks that stand in a writer's way, none are more deadly than limiting beliefs. Thoughts of "I'm not good enough" or "I'll never" or "What if?" do more than stop creatives in their tracks. They rob the world of beautiful stories and life-changing ideas that never see the light of day. In this book, Karen and Steve offer meaningful steps to overcome limiting beliefs and get on with the job of creating. Wise, compassionate and practical, their advice can help writers shed their repetitive thoughts of disaster and inadequacy, and move on with freedom and joy."

Who Is This Book For?
This book is for authors and writers (or those who wish they were), who are letting limiting beliefs get in the way of their dreams.
If you struggle with your inner critic or handling other people's criticism, this book is for you. If you can't quite find the time to write, this book is for you. If you're afraid to put yourself out there, stand out from the crowd, and put your ideas out into the world this book is for you.
In short, whether you are writing a work of fiction, a nonfiction book, a paper, or even a blog post, you will benefit from examining your current beliefs. If a limiting belief, lack of confidence, or an excuse (however valid) is holding you back from doing the writing you want to do, then this book is for you.
Introduction
"If you change your mind, you can change your life."
William James (Philosopher, Psychologist)
Writing is like playing golf. You're not competing against someone else; you're competing against yourself and your subconscious mind. Just like golfers, writers experience ups and downs similar to riding a roller coaster. Those ups and downs never completely disappear, not even for the highly successful authors we all look up to.
The key to success, as a writer, is maximizing the 'up' times and minimizing the length, depth, and effect of the 'down' times. That's where being able to control your subconscious mind comes in. The fewer limiting beliefs you have, the fewer 'down' times you experience. While down times are inevitable, the more you can limit their effect, the faster you can get back to those 'up' times where you're in the zone and your writing, and life, are great.
When the idea for this book came to me, I started asking every writer and want-to-be writer I knew about the limiting beliefs that held them back. This book gives you a mind hack for every one of those self-imposed limits. Each chapter helps you overcome a negative belief or attitude that is stopping you from succeeding. All you have to do is read it. It's designed to speak directly to your subconscious and remove the limit. Are you struggling with beliefs like, "I'm not good enough," or, "This is all rubbish and I'm kidding myself," or "Why would anyone want to read what I write?" Then read on, and find out how to hack your inner critic's mind.
When it comes to promoting your book and approaching an influencer in your field, writers can suddenly lose all their confidence or come up against the limit of, "Why would they want to meet with me?" There are exercises and chapters in this book that help you throw those problems out of the window.
Anytime you want to feel confident, it's possible to literally flip the switch in as little as a couple of minutes. You don't need to believe something to do it; you can be as skeptical as you like. However, if you follow the exercise, even just because you want to prove it's wrong, you'll quickly see how powerful your subconscious mind is and just how much you can control that inner voice. And remember, you, and you alone, can control it. No other person has that control over you. As Eleanor Roosevelt so brilliantly said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." The same goes for every single thought or emotion you feel. Everything is a choice. Your choice. The question is, are you going to make that choice and start controlling your subconscious mind? Or are you going to carry on and let it control your thoughts and emotions, put you through crushing self-doubt, and hold you back from what you want to achieve in your writing career? The choice is yours.
