Chris Green - Marketers Ruin Everything - Plus Five More Things I Learned From Gary Vaynerchuk

As a fan an d follower of Gary Vaynerchuk, it would be a huge mistake to start off this book without first saying Thanks!

My first experience with Gary Vaynerchuk was on March 10, 2012 when I ordered Garys book The Thank You Economy on Kindle. I forget exactly why Amazon recommended it to me, but Im guessing that it was because I had just bought UnMarketing: Stop Marketing. Start Engaging for Kindle the day before. Less than 24 hours later, I was back on Amazon to find out more about Gary and on March 11, 2012 I ordered Garys previous book, Crush It! Why NOW is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion , on Kindle.

Great stuff; great books. I highly recommend picking them up if you dont have them already, but Im guessing that you already know at least a little about Gary if youre reading this book.

For a long time, the only video that I had seen of Gary was on the Amazon page for The Thank You Economy . For anyone who knows Gary, this may be his TAMEST video on the entire Internet. I severely underappreciated Garys passion and energy that comes through when he takes the stage to speak at events.

In September 2012, I attended an eBay On Location event in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to the event, it was announced that Gary Vaynerchuk was going to be the keynote speaker. I thought, Cool, Ive heard of him and Ive even read his books!

Little did I know that I was about to have my face melted.

I still remember the beginning of Garys eBay keynote where he usually asks the audience how many people have any idea who he is (typically the majority of the attendees have no idea). I proudly raised my hand as if I was some kind of well-read businessman.

The next hour changed my life. Garys passion, energy, hustle, and enthusiasm are contagious. Anyone who has seen him in person or watched him on YouTube knows what I am talking about. You cant help but get fired up and psyched to go out and take the world by storm after listening to Garys story.

This keynote presentation is what inspired the title and cover of this book.

During the presentation, Gary said, Theres one thing I know more than the sun comes up tomorrow. And as a proud marketer myself, Ill say it right now: MARKETERS RUIN EVERYTHING. Its what we do. We find something thats nice and shiny and we SQUEEZE THE ORANGE until theres nothing left in it.

After the keynote, I had to meet the man in person. Gary practices what he preaches and took the time to shake hands and take pictures with each and every person who wanted to.

Over the next 12 months, I started to follow Gary on Facebook and Twitter . I emailed him and found out that he still personally replies to his emails. I even bought something off of him on eBay.

Now Gary has a new book coming out on November 26, 2013. Its called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy, Social World . An alternate title could have been Give, Give, Give, Ask to represent how people should look to help other people first (JAB) to create context and build social equity with people and then be in a position to ask (RIGHT HOOK).

I caught a few of Garys promotional efforts using SpreeCast to pre-sell the book on Amazon and was even able to join him on camera where he gave solid advice to some questions I had. I had already placed a pre-order for fifty copies of Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook , but Gary was still jabbing (giving) and not letting the relationship stop after the ask.

It was during one of his SpreeCasts that the idea for this book came to me.
