The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery affectionately called the ASVAB by military personnel is the test that military recruiters use to determine whether youre eligible for service in the U.S. Armed Forces. Dont let that scare you, though. With the right preparation (and this book), youll be well-prepared to take the test and join the military branch of your choice.

Four sections of the ASVAB determine your Armed Forces Qualification Test score, or AFQT: Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, and Arithmetic Reasoning. Once you find the answers, though, you have to understand them; thats why Paragraph Comprehension is part of what determines your eligibility for military service.
• Mathematics Knowledge: Your knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry will be put to the test when youre taking the ASVAB. The military wants to know if you can do more than count on your fingers (its tough to count on your toes when youre wearing combat boots), and basic math ability is a necessity if you want to claim your place in the worlds strongest military.
• Arithmetic Reasoning: Sure, you can read, write, and do arithmetic, but can you do them all at the same time? The Arithmetic Reasoning subtest measures your ability to extract mathematical concepts from word problems and find the answers.

After youve answered as many questions as you can stand for one sitting, flip to to check your answers. Every answer includes a complete explanation. The math problems include steps for reaching the correct solutions. That way, you can see exactly where you went wrong or guessed right! The vocabulary and reading questions include definitions and the reasoning behind the correct answers.
