Blacktip reef sharks
When you hear the word
shark
, what comes to your mind? Many people think
sharks are scary, dangerous beasts that are just waiting to snap up unlucky
swimmers. But when I hear the word
shark
, I think of incredible fish that come in
hundreds of different shapes and live in every part of the ocean. I have dived with
giant whale sharks and tiny dogfish. I am amazed every time. As a swimmer, surfer,
and scientist, I live with sharks. When you are finished with this book, I hope you
will be as excited about sharks as I am. Then, when you hear the word
shark
, you
will think,
Sharks are cool!
REMARKABLE
SHARKS
Lets go on an adventure under
the seawhat sharks call
home-sweet-home. You will learn
that some sharks are as big as
whales, while others can fit in your
hand. Some have funny names, like
crocodile sharks, goblin sharks, and
catsharks. Some have long tails,
some have noses like saws, while
others have fins like an angels
wings. Right now, there are hundreds
of
species
, or kinds, of sharks, but
scientists discover new species every
year. Are you ready? Lets dive in!

too. It forms your ears and nose and
helps your joints move smoothly.
Without bones, sharks are lighter and
more flexible than other fish. They have
large muscles and fins that make them
