Forward This book started as a collection of my own 7th chord arpeggio exercises. The purpose is to provide melodically pleasing exercises that can be used as a foundation for improvising and soloing. It seems almost pointless to me to practice chromatic exercises when there are more applicable ways to practice. These exercises are continual in their movement, but only for the sake of exercising. When improvising and soloing you should add rhythmic variation as you find appropriate. "Practice like the Devil" - Doc Watson Pentatonic Exercises The following exercises are in the key of C major (or A minor, alternatively) though they can be transposed.

Since the pentatonic scales of Am, Dm, and Em have identical intervals in the key of C, only one is shown per group of exercises to reduce redundancy. vii*ii*BDF Since the pentatonic scales of Am, Dm, and Em have identical intervals in the key of C, only one is shown per group of exercises to reduce redundancy.

However, since the pentatonic scales with roots Cmaj, Fmaj, and Gmaj do not have identical intervals, they thus have novel fingerings for us to practice. It is extremely important to master the art of economy picking. All the exercises contained in this book make full use of economy picking. I have notated them as such. Exercise
