Paula Saine, PhD, is the John Heckert Endowed Professor of Literacy in teacher education at Miami University in Ohio, where she teaches courses in and is an internationally recognized leader and expert on literacy and technology. Her research centers primarily on three important and interrelated principles: literacy, cultural competence, and the use of digital technologies in grades K12. Together, these principles shape her research on fostering interactive literacy learning through innovative approaches that equip practicing and current teachers for an ever-changing society.

I would like to thank my family for their love and support, especially my granddaughter, Mya Boxie. I wish to express profound appreciation to my editors, Tom Koerner, Carlie Wall, and Nicole Carty, for their insightful suggestions and their entire production team. I dedicate this book to current and future teachers as they rethink and explore new ways of engaging diverse K12 students in literacy instruction through innovative approaches using digital technology.
