I have created this collection of story webs, fliers, recipes, newspaper advertisements, and other reading comprehension practice for that specific purpose, increasing reading comprehension. The inclusion of a variety of questions supports the common core language arts standards. Questions for each passage include several levels of Blooms Taxonomy to include the upper-levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The format of the passages and questions provide students with practice exercises that help improve their reading comprehension competency and test taking skills. The exercises in this book may be done in any order or sequentially. The user friendliness makes the book beneficial for both teachers and parents to help students become more prepared to score well on high stakes assessments.
After reading the passages, the questions that follow can be answered by circling the correct letter choice. An answer key is located in the back of the book on page 56. When working with readers, as parents or teachers, you need to be positive and supportive. Additionally, encourage your children to read 15-20 minutes daily. Reading aloud to children on a regular basis supports childrens literacy growth and school success. Acknowledgements A special thank you is extended to my husband, Mike; my daughter, Angela Black; the Anna Smith Elementary Staff, Wendover, Utah; Life Long Learning Associates; Dean Jardee, principal of Vaughn Elementary, and Allison Jochim for creating the story webs on pages 38 and 44.
