BAD HOLD With a bad grip you can play basic rhythms but you will find advanced rhythms very difficult to perfect. HOW NOT TO PLAY GUITAR NO Weak fingers Bad guitar teachers Bad thumb positioning Learning music theory Learning rhythms badly Learning G the wrong way Holding a guitar pick badly Learning on nylon string guitars Holding guitar neck in chord hand
NO C O N T E N T S
RAISED THUMB KNUCKLE This locks your fingers. You might be able to learn some chords from this position, but again, fast chord changing is impossible.
Your thumb is positioned before or at the same time as your fingers. NEVER AFTER THEM . This has a huge impact on how your hand moves up and down the guitar.
Many people leave it behind or raise the knuckle. This Is Fatal . If your thumb falls sideways you can play basic chords but you will not be able to change quickly from one chord to another. THE GREATS CANT READ MUSIC WHY SHOULD YOU? Did you ever buy a teach yourself guitar book...or enrol on a program of guitar lessons only to end up being taught music theory instead? So many people lose interest over this. Sheet Music Is Not Music - It Is Ink On Paper. Also, sheet music does not show you how to set up, which fingers to use, or how to position your thumb and hands.
All you need are guitar boxes and guitar tablature, which takes only five minutes to learn. NO C H O R D I N D E X YES NO Learning the G chord as shown below is one of the main reasons why people give up playing guitar. This G only works when you pick each string one by one. But not when you strum all the strings at once. It Sounds Muddy . And it can lead to other problems as you try to improve.
The best way to learn G is more difficult, but only for a few weeks. After that you have a lifetime of endless possibilities. It is mostly played two ways. Changing to C and D can be difficult. You cant add as many bass runs or ornamentation.
One gives a rich airy sound.
The other frees your 1st and 2nd fingers to add more notes, polychords, and bass runs.
