Pet Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs have round bodies.

Some have short hair.

Some have long hair.

We keep our guinea pig clean.

We brush its hair three times

a week.

Why should
you brush

We feed our guinea pig

two times a day.

It eats pellets.

We give it clean

water too.

Guinea pigs like to play.

They run and hop.

They need a large cage.

Bedding is in the cage.

Bedding can be wood chips.

It can also be bits of paper.

We clean the bedding two times

a week.

A guinea pigs teeth never stop

growing.

We give our guinea pigs carrots

and wood to chew on.

Why do you
think guinea pigs
need things to
chew on?

Guinea pigs need

exercise.

Sometimes we let ours run

around the room.

Sometimes our guinea

pig plays in the yard.

How else could
a guinea
pig exercise?

We take our guinea pig to the

veterinarian once a year.

A veterinarian is an animal doctor.

She makes sure our pet is healthy.

Guinea pigs make great pets.

They can live for five years

or more.
