Chapter 1: Positions On The Court
What Position Does Your Athlete Play?
The five basketball positions are Point Guard , Shooting Guard , Small Forward , Power Forward and Center. This first chapter is designed to help you identify what position your athlete plays. Then, as you move forward, youll have a better understanding of what your child is thinking on the basketball floor. When you drive home after a bad game. Youll be able to talk basketball with your young player.
Let's get started with this overview of the five positions on the basketball court. This video will jumpstart your learning and provide an example of how you will complete the rest of these fun, interactive, video exercises. Try to focus on the position your athlete plays. Imagine your child moving around the floor. You'll be amazed at how this game will start to slow down as you're watching. Meaning, you'll be able to understand things more quickly as they happen. Why do basketball players move the way they do? My goal with this chapter is to help you understand why certain moves happen on the basketball court. Every step has a purpose and every area on the court serves a particular function. As you learn the areas on the court, you'll start to enjoy the game more and understand why your child seems to run around aimlessly. I know you would agree that it looks like a track-in-field competition at times. Therefore, if you hear the coach instruct your child to go to a specific area, I want you to understand what your child is dealing with. It just feels good to know what our kids are up to, right?
Let's take a look at some of the basic areas on the basketball court. Take a look at This Video exercise and answer the question.
The High Post Area: These are some of the general areas of the court. If you're watching a game of basketball and you hear these phrases, you'll understand what's going through your child's mind. Watch This Video and give me your best answer.
The End Line: Which player in This Video runs to the End Line? Don't linger on questions you don't know. Just have fun! It's a fun process.
The Backcourt Area: If you watch enough basketball, you're going to hear the word "backcourt" often. Let's learn what it is. Watch This Video and answer the question.
