There is a worldwide crisis of obesity and diabetes today. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that 8.3 percent of the worlds population, or 387 million individuals, have diabetes and 592 million, or 1 in 10, are expected to develop diabetes by 2035.
Prediabetes defines a blood sugar level that is higher than normal but not sufficiently elevated to be classified as type 2 diabetes. There are currently 86 million individuals with prediabetes, affecting 1 in 3 Americans. Without intervention, prediabetes may evolve to type 2 diabetes within ten years. Furthermore, the long-term complications typically associated with diabetes, such as eye disease, may already be present with prediabetes. It is highly encouraging to note, however, that this situation may be reversible if prediabetes or diabetes is diagnosed sufficiently early and by incorporating changes in lifestyle to include healthier eating, increasing physical activity and maintaining a desirable weight.
Furthermore, medication is often not required when prediabetes is detected at a very early stage; a variety of clinical studies have consistently documented that lifestyle changes involving a weight-loss goal of 7 percent with a minimum of 150 minutes per week of exercise can be almost twice as effective as the use of drugs for the treatment of prediabetes. For those with diabetes who are already receiving medication, adopting a healthier lifestyle can lead to a reduction or elimination in the use of medication. Although prevention is the primary objective, it is never too late to improve glucose control by changes in therapeutic lifestyle.
Forty percent of adults face a lifetime risk of diabetes, representing a substantial increase from 20 percent in the late 1980s.
The 28-Day Blood Sugar Miracle, authored by Cher Pastore, MS, RD, CDE, a prominent, highly experienced dietitian/nutritionist and certified diabetes educator, is a clear, focused, easy-to-follow and practical guide to enhanced nutrition with a primary emphasis on plant-derived foods. Considerable research and effort has gone into providing an easy-to-comprehend book, including a clear, lucid, inviting and palatable scientific background, making this most appealing. Many diet books are extreme, faddist and therefore short-lived. What has been lacking, which separates this book from others, is a simple, intuitive, mainstream and logical approach to better eating and living, which can result in sustained weight loss and blood sugar control.
Chers guidelines to better health are well-balanced, realistic, pragmatic and easy to incorporate. This book abounds with real-life examples of developing more nutritious and healthier eating habits, whether at home or out. Her recommendations are not theoretical or vague, but contain specific and detailed diet plans with abundant, tasteful menu options based on scientific study and many years of experience in helping her patients lose weight and control/prevent or reverse their diabetes. Considerable effort has gone into developing regimens that are not only healthy, but exciting, appealing and offering variety. This book will not only be of value to those with metabolic disorders, but will genuinely benefit everyone who is health conscious and seeking a more nutritious lifestyle.

I want to cry every time a patient sits in front of me and tells me they have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. But I dont. I sit quietly and keep my calm as I listen to their story. I have to be strong. I am there to help themI just wish they had come to me sooner.
According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), over 29 million people, 9.3 percent of the population, have diabetes in the United States.
Im Cher Pastore, a registered dietitian (RD) and a certified diabetes educator (CDE) with a masters degree in nutrition and over 15 years of focused education and training in nutrition and the science of diabetes. As a seasoned entrepreneur with a successful private practice, I have helped many clients take control of their diabetes, lose weight and transition to living a healthier life. I also counsel clients on a variety of other health issues, including, but not limited to, prenatal and maternal nutrition, cardiovascular disease, digestive problems and thyroid disorders.
This is what I doI help people improve their life through healthy eating. I meet with patients on a daily basis to help them prevent, reverse or control their diabetes through dietary and lifestyle modifications. Scientists confirm that by adopting a plant-based diet and making lifestyle changes, many diseases of the 21st century can be prevented.
Many of the problems that face Americans today stem from the food supply and the abundance of overly processed, chemically laden foods that line the shelves of the supermarket. It upsets me so much that consumers cannot go to a supermarket without being bombarded by false claims that a product is healthy, when in fact it is filled with ingredients that are not even recognizable, and sugar is a main component. Something must be done about this problem.
This is why I wrote The 28-Day Blood Sugar Miracle. The Blood Sugar Miracle (BSM) way of life is the result of my passion for healthy eating, my experience counseling patients on nutrition and diabetes management, and the success I have seen my patients achieve during my ten years as a private practitioner. One day I put them all together and the Blood Sugar Miraclea whole foods, plant-based way of life for preventing, treating and beating diabeteswas born.
Through the years I have tried different approaches to helping my clients control their blood sugarfrom carbohydrate counting, to portion control, to a low-carbohydrate/high-protein dietall with some elements of success. However, once I started doing research on a plant-based diet as a way to treat diabetes, I became intrigued. I began trying it out with many of my clients. The results were staggering. The clients I put on a plant-based diet saw a significant drop in their blood sugar in the least amount of time as opposed to those on other diets! When my clients transitioned from eating a highly processed diet, including meat, to the Blood Sugar Miracle way of eating, they reported that they didnt feel hungry, lowered their glucose levels, had more energy, were able to think more clearly and lost weight more easily.
