Motherhood and Relationships There is no friendship no love like that of a - photo 2

Motherhood and Relationships

There is no friendship, no love, like that of a mother for her child.

Henry Ward Beecher

They say that when Mamas not happy, nobodys happy. And why is that, you ask? The bond between a mother and her child is one of the strongest of any human relationships. It has an almost palpable presence in a family; a mothers relationship with her children directly affects the atmosphere of a home. That bond is the first relationship that each human being forms, and the ties are both physical and emotional.

When a baby is born, the creation of the mother-child bond is instinctual to the human species. In most cases, this attachment is imprinted in a mothers very genetics. In order to survive, infants require a mother to meet their physical and psychological needs. Some doctors believe that a close attachment with the mother can boost a babys immune system, raise the babys IQ, and prevent a variety of diseases. But as babies grow into toddlers, teens, and adults, they continue to rely on the emotional bond that can only be shared with a mother, and as emotional nourishment becomes even more important than physical care, mothers and mother-figures become even more vital.

Ironically, building a strong mother-child relationship ultimately enables children to become more independent. As children grow closer to their mothers, they are more empowered to leave the nest and experience life on their own. Children who form a strong relationship with their mothers are better equipped to face the world, its dangers, and its uncertainties. The mother becomes a safe haven, a base from which children can experience the world without fear and know that if a situation gets out of hand, they can always turn to their mother. Of course, mothers are naturally protective, but a healthy relationship simultaneously empowers both parties to rely on each other and to be autonomous.

While each mother-child relationship is unique, this loving bond in strengthened most by the love each party shows to the other. Motherhood creates a unique kind of love that sees a childs faults, shortcomings, and strengths, but loves the child in spite of and because of them. A mother feels her childrens pain and understands their grief in a way that no one else in the world is able. As the guardian of such a sacred relationship, mothers have the duty and the opportunity to give their children their love, their support, and their trust.

These quotes explain the value of motherhood and the beautiful relationships it garners.
