Hello and thank you for purchasing The Seed To Pantry Planner: Grow, Cook, and Preserve A Years Worth Of Food . Im Jennifer from Seed To Pantry School, and if youre interested in growing, cooking, and preserving your own food, this is the planner for you. You can certainly do all threegrow, cook, and preserveand this planner is designed to get you there, but it doesnt have to be all or nothing for you to benefit from using it. In short, filling out the following pages will help you take control of your food, and all that means to you.
Ive included charts to help you go from seed to jar, or from jar to seed, depending on your perspective.
This planner is divided into three parts: what you need to plan for Yearly, Monthly, and Weekly.
Yearly
Start with the desired result, or as Stephen Covey said, Begin with the end in mind. You need to know where youre going: exactly how much food would you like to preserve this year? How much would you like to grow? How much food will you cook? Then take those numbers and put them into an action plan. After all, a goal without action is just a dream, right?
Filling out the yearly goal pages will help you make growing and preserving enough food for your family a reality, and even more than that, it will give you a record of what you are capable of doing, giving you motivation and data for years to come.
Monthly
This planner is designed to be a daily planner for helping you grow, cook, and preserve, but it is also a planner for life. Youll find monthly calendars and budgeting sheets in the monthly section. There are a few things that need to be tracked on a monthly basis, like monthly goals. Keeping track of goals every month is a great way to see progress and a way to make sure those action steps are being taken.
Weekly
In the weekly section, you can see your week at a glance and also have room for meal planning. Taking advantage of the meal planning section will save you a ton of time and money. Its well-documented that planning meals helps you eat healthy for a lot less out of pocket.
If Youve Never Used A Planner Before
Using a planner can seem overwhelming; after all there is so much to write and so much to plan
The thing is that nothing will be gained by keeping these pages blank. If you forget for a few days, weeks, or even months, its really no big dealjust begin where you are. The alternative is a blank book and thats NOT what you or I want.
For those that write things outside the lines and feel bad about it later or are afraid of being messyDONT! Life is messy so its perfectly fine for your planner to be messy toojust make sure you can read the important parts.
Seed To Pantry Wheel of Knowledge
If you are a member of Seed To Pantry School, youll recognize certain elements in this planner. Its designed to help you reach your Purple Ribbon status by helping you grow, cook, preserve, live naturally, and make handmade gifts.
In short, this planner will help your journey from seed to pantry by allowing you to track your progress.
Please keep in touch and let me know how you are using this book.
Take care,
Jennifer

Lets Start Planning
Planning For The Year
1. Preserving Goals
The planner begins with preserving goals because this is your end goalto create your own grocery store by canning, drying, or fermenting your own foodso these pages will drive and guide your year. What are your goals? To can enough to last through the winter? To learn a new preservation method? Or maybe to use two methods in combination to enjoy nutritious food all year long?
2. How Many Jars Will I Get From My Fresh FoodCanning Charts
The last column in this canning chart is a good starting place. If you run your finger down the column youll get a good idea which foods are suitable for canning and which are not. Keep in mind that recipes are not incorporated into this chart. So while pickled pearl onions are listed, no other recipe that includes onions is listed in the chart. Youll have to make a list of recipes you want to can, then adjust your numbers based on the amounts needed in pounds.
Excluding recipes from the canning charts was a decision we made because of course, we could not include every recipe in the planner. However, from the information provided, you should be able to easily calculate what you need to grow or purchase to put up a years worth of a favorite recipe. Youll just need to know your numbers.
