How to Use This Book
C ongratulations on your decision to become a court officer! You will find this career path both rewarding and financially beneficial. The work is interesting, sometimes exciting, and, as we all know, extremely important. However, there are some hurdles ahead of you. Indeed, you have to beat out the competition and succeed at each step of an arduous selection process before you can be appointed.
Court Officer Exam will guide you through each stage of the selection process and will help you strengthen your test-taking skills to improve your chances of success. The following chapters are filled with useful information, advice, and practice exercises that will help you understand both how the hiring process works and how you can best meet the requirements.
The hiring process for selecting court officers varies among districts. Getting through each phase of the hiring process will require determination and a commitment to your goal of becoming a court officer. The selection process can be challenging, especially for those who dont know what to expect. Youll probably have serious competition, but you will have an edge over your competition if you use this book and study it thoroughly. It will provide you with the practice and information you need to succeed.
While there may be some variation among court systems, most court systems require applicants to complete each of the following steps successfully (although not necessarily in this exact order):
Application
Written exam
Physical fitness test
Interview
Psychological evaluation
Medical evaluation, which includes drug testing
Extensive background investigation
Failure to pass any one of these stages can result in disqualification. In many jurisdictions, candidates who fail the physical agility exam are given a second opportunity to retake the exam within 90 days. However, anyone who tests positive for illegal drugs or who has a felony conviction in his or her background will be prohibited from proceeding any further in the hiring process. Please be sure that you can meet these basic qualifications before applying for the position.
Prepare yourself by taking the practice tests in this book and reading each chapter, so you can avoid the pitfalls that prevent many court officer candidates from being hired.
Diligent study and review of this book will help you to appreciate how the exam is structured and what you are being asked to do. Make sure to complete all of the practice exams and review your answers, both correct and incorrect, carefully. By doing so, you will see a noticeable increase in your test scores, thereby allowing you to score higher than candidates who did not adequately prepare for the exam. Remember, a prepared test taker is a better test taker.
Court Officer Exam will help you find out as much as you can about the hiring process and practice the skills you need to succeed at each stage. This book will give you an inside look at the entire process, so you will be less nervous when facing tests, interviews, and procedures that can sometimes be intimidating. You will know what to expect, which is likely to lead to better choices and better results than those of other candidates who are just rushing ahead blindly.
