About the Author
Jerry Muelver has been freelancing in technical writing and its associated fields (photography, programming, desktop publishing) since 1966. He considers computer languages, karate, and the vibraphone to be high sport and pursues them all with roughly the same enthusiasm and technique, somewhat to the dismay of his betters in those fields.
"My saving grace," says Jerry, "is a knack for explaining. New concepts and techniques are challenging and fun to learn, but the real kick comes in simplifying the complicated and explaining it to people. I like to see them light up when an explanation clicks." He lives in the southern Wisconsin lake country near Oconomowoc. When he is not online (home page at http: //www. hytext. com), Jerry is in the oak woods off the back deck, battling the invading buckthorn over the issue of property rights.

Dedication
This book is dedicated to my wife, Susan Stacy, who expects me to have the right answer for any question on any topic, and to the crowd of friends and acquaintances on CompuServe who know better than to hold such high expectations.
