Foreword
Most books written about aquatic insects have been written by flyfishers who were not entomologists or be entomologists who were not flyfishers. One of the authors of this one in an aquatic entomologist, and both he and his co-author are devout flyfishers.
Also, most books on aquatic entomology by entomologists were for use be teachers as textbooks and were largely methods of procedure for identification, with little or none of the behavioral information that the flyfisher needs.
All of the information in this one is presented with only the flyfisher in mind, thus all of it is useful to the flyfisher. Both the nymph fisher and the dry-fly fisher will find here what is needed to help them deal with their particular problems in identification and use of the artificial of choice.
The organization of the book is simple and easily followed, and always the purpose is to lead the reader to the proper use of the correct fly. The keys are arranged for the flyfisher's use and not for the student of entomology. There is no extraneous material.
