Though I didn't know it at the time I was always, like everyone else going to the movies in the Thirties and Forties, a fan of Yakima Canutt. Most of the heroics and hairbreadth escapes that filled the screen so richly then were performed by Yak, not by the actors whose exploits I thought I was watching.
